Chapter 52
After speaking, she rolled up her sleeve, revealing bruises of
blue and purple all over her arm.
“Oh my, what happened!” Lila exclaimed. “Did they actually hit
you?”
“There’s some kind of ringleader in there. If you don’t listen to
her, you get beaten…” Nyasia looked at Edmund with tearful
eyes. “Ed, can you really bear to let me suffer like this?”
“How could I possibly bear it?” Edmund lowered his gaze to
Nyasia’s trembling shoulders, his knuckles curling slightly
inside his sleeve. “I…”
He wanted to explain something, but didn’t know how to put it
into words.
Should he say that he tried, but failed?
Wouldn’t that be admitting he lost to Woodrow?
“Ed, do you know, these days, I’ve missed you so much…”
Lila’s gaze froze for a moment, then she quickly interjected, “Alright! Nya, don’t say that here. Let’s go home first. I’ve had

lots of delicious food prepared for you…”
Edmund glanced at her and said, “Get in the car first.”
With that, he turned around first and walked toward the car
parked nearby.
Nyasia bit her lip and followed Lila forward. After a few steps,
she lowered her voice and asked, “Mom, where’s Kaneeta? What
has she been doing these days?”
Lila sighed, “She’s been busy with work all this time, and she
hasn’t come home at all. It seems she’s still holding a grudge
against you.”
“She’s holding a grudge against me? As if I don’t hate her?”
Nyasia’s face twisted. “She stole my Ed, and even got me thrown
into the detention center. I really wish she would die, just die!”
“Enough, we’re still outside. Don’t be so loud.”
“Is Ed siding with her, is that why he didn’t save me?”
“No, how could you think that of him? He really had no choice…
Someone was secretly blocking his efforts to bail you out.”
A vicious glint flashed in Nyasia’s eyes. “Who was stopping him?
Kaneeta? No… it was Woodrow, wasn’t it!”
Chapter 52
Lila remained silent.
Although they still hadn’t figured out who was secretly
interfering, she also felt that, besides Woodrow, who else could
have done it?
“Heh…” Nyasia looked at Edmund’s back ahead and deliberately
raised her voicé. “That shameless woman Kaneeta! She must
have seduced Woodrow. Otherwise, why would Woodrow go
out of his way for her?”
As soon as she finished speaking, Edmund suddenly stopped in
his tracks, whipped around, and glared at her.
Nyasia was startled. She had wanted to keep cursing, but the
words suddenly stuck in her throat.
At that moment, Edmund also realized he might have been too
harsh.
Nyasia had just gotten out of the detention center; she was at
her most vulnerable.
How could he be so fierce with her?
So he softened his expression a little. “Alright, don’t say such
things. Hurry up and get in the car, let’s go home.”
Chapter 52
“Hmph…”
Nyasia pouted in grievance.
After getting in the car, she sulked and refused to speak to
Edmund.
Seeing her like this, Lila tried to comfort her: “Alright, don’t be
mad at your brother. He really couldn’t do anything this time.
Hasn’t he always protected you whenever you got into trouble?
Have you forgotten? Back then…”
She had wanted to mention that car accident of Kaneeta’s two
years ago, which Edmund had taken care of.
But after thinking it over, she changed the subject: “Have you
forgotten how you bullied someone in high school, and they
released the video? So many people called you a school bully,
but in the end, wasn’t it your brother who helped you out of
that mess?”
“That was so many years ago, why bring it up now?”
“I just want you to know, Ed would never abandon you. No
matter what, he’ll always be your brother,” Lila said with
meaning.
Although she didn’t want the siblings to be at odds, she also

didn’t want the two of them to really end up together.
