Chapter 81
“Neeta! Have you seen the gift I prepared for you? Hehehe… Isn’t
it beautiful? Do you like it?”
“I like it,” Kaneeta said, looking at the complete set of diamond
J jewelry in front of her. “It’s very sparkly.”
“Hic, of course! If it didn’t sparkle, how could it suit our Neeta…
Hehehe, actually…”
“Hmm?”
“Ah, n–no, it’s nothing. Ah, I’m going to fly…
Cora was acting drunk again. Kaneeta could hear Ayana’s
helpless scolding on the other end of the line. She didn’t even
have to imagine how much of a headache Ayana must have
right now.
In fact, the gift Cora had originally prepared for Kaneeta was a
set of dance costumes.
She had commissioned a master abroad to make them, a process
that took three whole months. She had planned to give them to
Kaneeta after returning home.
Chapter 81
But then she learned that Kaneeta would never be able to dance
again.
If she gave her the dance costumes now, wouldn’t that just
make things worse?
So she had no choice but to buy a set of jewelry at the last
minute.
After her drunken outburst, Cora suddenly asked, “Neeta, did
Miguel give you a gift? What did he give you?”
After saying that, she must have pressed something by mistake,
because before Kaneeta could answer, she hung up the phone.
Knowing how drunk she was, Kaneeta didn’t bother calling
back. Her gaze fell on the pile of gifts placed to the side.
Many people who attended the welcome ceremony today had
given her gifts, and the hotel had made sure to deliver them all
to her in perfect condition.
Kaneeta picked up the gift bag from Miguel and opened it.
Inside was a brocade box.
She opened the box and saw that inside was what appeared to
be a painting.
Chapter 81
She unrolled the painting.
It was an oil painting, depicting a young girl sitting and smiling
amidst a cluster of flowers.
The painting was so lifelike that, for a moment, Kaneeta felt as if
she had returned to being eighteen years old.
Indeed, the girl in the painting looked very much like her at
eighteen.
The painting was signed by Miguel.
Miguel had painted it himself.
Kaneeta gazed at the smiling face of the girl in the oil painting.
Eighteen… Back then, she hadn’t been with Edmund yet, her legs
were still fine, and Cora would always secretly put soft pads in
her dance shoes.
Suddenly, her phone vibrated twice, snapping Kaneeta back to
reality. She saw that the message was from Woodrow.
“I’m at the gate of the Drayton’s villa.”
Kaneeta was puzzled.
Had he not left just now? Or had he left and come back?
Chapter 81
Before she could figure it out, Woodrow sent another message: “I’ve thought about it carefully, but I really can’t think of any friends I should bring to dinner. After much consideration, I
think I should just ask Ms. Drayton in person.”
There seemed to be a hint of helplessness in his words.
Kaneeta pressed her lips together.
Then she stood up and walked outside.
Since Woodrow had said as much, and he was waiting outside,
there was no need for her to hesitate any longer. She might as
well go out and talk to him directly.
In the night, Woodrow leaned against his car. When he saw Kaneeta walking out from the gate of the Drayton’s villa, a faint
smile seemed to flicker in his eyes.
“Ms. Drayton.”
