Chapter 72
On the way to the hotel, Cora received a call from a friend who
was coming to the welcome party. The friend said he had
someone who also wanted to join the fun and asked if he could
bring this friend along.
“Sure, bring them along,” Cora replied. “Just don’t bring anyone
sketchy, that’s all. The more, the merrier.”
“Oh, don’t worry, definitely not anyone sketchy!”
Cora didn’t think much of it, but she never expected that the
friend he would bring would turn out to be Miguel.
At that moment, they were just about to gather around Kaneeta
to cut the cake. Cora had specially ordered it for the welcome
party: five tiers in total, with a little figurine of Kaneeta on top,
dressed in a cape and wearing a crown, looking especially regal.
“Cora, this looks just like a birthday party for Neeta,” someone
teased.
“So what? We’re celebrating a new beginning! Let’s just treat it
like a birthday!” Cora waved her hand grandly.
“A new beginning? What do you mean?”
Chapter 72
“Ahem, best not to ask about things you shouldn’t know!”
As Cora spoke, she looked around. “Is anyone still not here?”
“Jasper isn’t here yet.”
Jasper Merritt was the one who had just called Cora, saying he
wanted to bring a friend.
“What’s up with him? Why is he so late? Maybe we shouldn’t
wait any longer…”
Before Cora could finish, a man’s apologetic voice sounded:
“Sorry, we’re late. Something came up and delayed us a bit.”
Everyone turned to look, including Kaneeta.
When she saw who it was, her pupils trembled twice in shock.
Walking toward them were two young men–one was Jasper,
and the other…
It was actually Miguel.
“Jasper, the friend you said you were bringing, it’s… it’s…” Cora
was stunned as well.
“Yep, surprised?” Jasper grinned. “Miguel’s been busy with his
art exhibition lately and is exhausted, so I brought him here to

relax a bit.”
“It’s really Miguel!”
“The great artist! I even bought tickets to your exhibition.”
“Can I get your autograph later?”
“When is the exhibition?”
Everyone’s attention was drawn to Miguel, and Cora was
instantly displeased: “Hey, hey, hey, what are you all doing?
Don’t forget, today is Neeta’s welcome party!”
Even if Miguel was Kaneeta’s betrothed, he couldn’t steal the
spotlight at her welcome party!
“We haven’t forgotten, how could we forget Neeta?” everyone
hurriedly replied.
They weren’t deliberately ignoring Kaneeta; it was just that
Miguel so rarely appeared in public that they were all simply
surprised.
Miguel spoke as well, gentle and refined: “Everyone is here for
the welcome party today. I’m just a guest tagging along with
Jasper, so please don’t mind me.”
With that, he looked at Kaneeta and gave her a slight nod.
Chapter 72
“Ms. Drayton, welcome back to Roseburn.”
Kaneeta snapped out of her surprise and smiled graciously.
“Thank you, Mr. Hartwell.”
She hadn’t expected that her first meeting with her betrothed
after returning to Roseburn would be at the welcome party.
“Alright, now that everyone’s here, let’s cut the cake!”
Everyone gathered around Kaneeta, urging her to make the
first cut.
Miguel picked up the cake knife nearby and, with a natural
motion, turned the handle toward Kaneeta.
Kaneeta paused slightly, looking up to meet the smile in his
eyes.
Everyone could vaguely sense that there was something
unusual in the air between the two of them.
Meanwhile, Cora was staring at the pair, her eyes shining.
They really are a perfect match!
