Chapter 32
At this moment, Atticus couldn’t be bothered with the slightly chaotic situation before him. He anxiously inquired about
Kaneeta’s condition: “Where is she hurt? What did the doctor
say?”
After all, he had watched this young girl grow up. Now, hearing that she was injured and in the hospital, how could he not be
concerned?
“I hit the back of my head on a cabinet. The doctor said it’s a mild
concussion, nothing serious,” Kaneeta replied.
Atticus let out a sigh of relief. “As long as you’re alright.”
Then he turned to look at Woodrow and Edmund beside him, a
flicker of doubt in his eyes.
But he was a clever man, and quickly pieced together the general
situation.
Woodrow helped Kaneeta sit up properly and said, “Don’t get up
so abruptly again.”
“Mm… I know,” Kaneeta lowered her eyes. “Thank you, Mr.
Hartwell.”
Woodrow straightened up, his cold gaze fixed on Edmund.
“Why does Ms. Drayton have a mild concussion?”
Edmund’s heart skipped a beat, but he quickly composed himself
and replied calmly, “It was just an accident. Neeta fell by
mistake.”
“Heh,” Kaneeta sneered, “Edmund, do you never even bother to
prepare your lies?”
“Neeta!” Edmund frowned. He thought to himself, can’t Kaneeta
cooperate with him in front of outsiders? She was becoming
more and more unruly!
“Why are you calling Neeta?” Atticus’s expression turned cold as
well. “You want her to help you lie?”
“And who are you?” Edmund looked him up and down.
Atticus had only come to Calchester this year. The branch of the
Drayton Group and the Kuntz Group had little interaction, so
Edmund had never met him.
“I’m Neeta’s uncle!” Atticus assumed the posture of an elder. “I
want to know, why exactly did our Neeta end up with a mild
concussion?”
He had vaguely heard before that there was some
unpleasantness between Kaneeta and Matthew because of a
man. It seemed the man before him was the one.
But since Kaneeta was about to be engaged to Woodrow, it
meant she had already broken things off with this man. There
was no need for him to save face for this kid anymore.
“Un… uncle?” Edmund looked at Kaneeta.
Seeing that she didn’t deny it, he assumed Kaneeta was related to
him somehow and didn’t take it to heart.
“It was just an accident…”
“Nyasia pushed me,” Kaneeta had no intention of letting Edmund
continue to make excuses and said bluntly, “Oh, that’s the woman
standing outside, Edmund’s dear sister.”
“Neeta! You…”
Kaneeta ignored Edmund’s attempt to stop her and continued,
“Nyasia pushed me on purpose, causing the back of my head to
hit the cabinet. I want to press charges against her.“”
“What?” Atticus was furious. “She pushed you on purpose? How
dare she!”
The atmosphere in the hospital room instantly dropped to
freezing point. Edmund’s face alternated between pale and
flushed, a vein throbbing at his temple.
He hadn’t expected Kaneeta to show him no mercy at all in front
of others.
And now she wanted to press charges against Nyasia? Was she
crazy? Was it really necessary to make such a fuss over
something so trivial?
j
“Then press charges,” Woodrow spoke up. “I’ll take care of it.”
Kaneeta was taken aback and hurriedly said, “No need, Atticus
can…”
A
“Oh, Neeta, there’s no need to be polite with Mr. Hartwell,”
Atticus said. “Since Mr. Hartwell said he’ll handle it, let him do it.”
“You can’t press charges!” Lila burst in.
She had been listening carefully to the conversation in the
hospital room just now.
When she heard Kaneeta say she wanted to press charges against
Nyasia, she was beside herself with anxiety.
