Chapter 29
“Oh, Mom, please stay out of our business.”
“How can I not get involved? And let me tell you, you can’t do what you did two years ago again, it’s too risky! Kaneeta dying is one thing, but if you end up in jail, how could I ever face your biological parents who have already passed away?”
Kaneeta smiled silently.
Perhaps it was because she had learned too many truths and
experienced too much in the past few days.
Right now, there was no great turmoil in her heart.
She was simply grateful that she had heard these words from
Lila.
She no longer needed to foolishly treat Lila as someone who truly
cared for her.
Kaneeta turned and went straight back to her room to start
packing.
In fact, there wasn’t much she wanted to take; she could leave
behind everything from the Kuntz family.
So she only packed a few changes of clothes and some daily
necessities into a small suitcase.
When she came out of her room with the small suitcase, Lila and
Nyasia had just finished their conversation and were coming
back from the balcony.
“Who is it?” Lila was startled by the shadow in the living room.
She quickly reached for the switch on the wall and turned on the
light.
The living room was suddenly flooded with light, and Kaneeta
instinctively squinted her eyes.
“Neeta?” Lila let out a sigh of relief. “It’s so late, why aren’t you…
hey, where are you going with that?”
She stared at the suitcase Kaneeta was carrying, puzzled.
Kaneeta glanced at her but ignored her, heading straight for the
front door.
“Hey, Kaneeta!”
Nyasia, annoyed, strode over and blocked Kaneeta’s way. “My
mom is talking to you, didn’t you hear? Is this how you treat your
elders?”
“Move,” Kaneeta said coldly.
“Hey, Nya, don’t talk to your sister–in–law like that,” Lila hurried over to smooth things over. “Neeta, are you going on a business trip? Why so sudden? Why not leave in the morning?”
Kaneeta smiled. “Mrs. Kuntz, I forgot to tell you, Edmund and I
have broken up.”
Lila gasped in shock.
“You… what did you say? Broke up? When did this happen? Why
did you break up?”
Lila was so surprised that she didn’t even notice Kaneeta had
changed the way she addressed her.
“You broke up with Ed?” Nyasia was delighted, but also surprised.
Hadn’t Edmund said Kaneeta would become his real wife in the
future? Why did they suddenly break up?
At that moment, Edmund, having heard the commotion, also
came out of the bedroom.
He must have been asleep, as he still looked a bit drowsy when he
came out.
“It’s so late, what are you all doing here?”
“Ed, Neeta says you two broke up. What’s going on?” Lila’s voice
was sharp.
Chapter 29
Although she looked down on Kaneeta’s family background,
right now, if Kaneeta left, who else could stand between Edmund
and Nyasia?
Edmund frowned and looked at Kaneeta, his expression dark. “It’s the middle of the night, what are you making a scene for now?”
“Edmund, I already made it very clear to you tonight. We’re breaking up,” Kaneeta said coldly.
”
Edmund was both angry and anxious. He had thought that after they came home and had dinner together, the matter would be over, and Kaneeta couldn’t possibly mean to break up with him.
But now she was actually leaving with her suitcase?
Could she really be serious?
No, impossible. She must just be trying to scare him.
Edmund scolded her, “Don’t go too far! No matter how you act up
in front of me, I can tolerate it, but now you’re making a scene in
front of my mom too?”
“Edmund, aren’t you ashamed to say that?”
The sarcasm on Kaneeta’s face reminded Edmund of what had

happened that morning. He was embarrassed for a moment, but quickly said, “Whatever it is, let’s talk in the morning. My mom’s not in good health–do you have to upset her in the middle of the
night?”
He thought that by saying this, Kaneeta would surely consider Lila and obediently compromise.
However, Kaneeta’s gaze swept indifferently over Lila.
Lila felt a chill run through her heart. She simply reached out and grabbed the handle of Kaneeta’s suitcase.
“Neeta, what did Ed do to upset you? Tell me, and I’ll stand up for you! You’ve been together for five years, and you even have your marriage certificate now. How can you just break up like this?”
The more Lila spoke, the more anxious she became.
To be fair, Kaneeta really was a good daughter–in–law–filial and attentive. There was a time when Lila’s health was poor, and
Kaneeta took care of her, even more so than Edmund or Nyasia.
If only her family background were a bit better…
“Speaking of which, Mrs. Kuntz,” Kaneeta looked at her, “I’ve
been with Edmund for five years, but you never once mentioned
meeting my family.”
Chapter 29
Lila’s face froze.
She looked down on Kaneeta’s family, so of course she wouldn’t
respect them, nor would she consider them her in–laws.
Kaneeta had never brought it up before, so why was she
suddenly making an issue of it now?
Actually, Kaneeta wasn’t really making an issue of it. After all,
her father didn’t approve of Edmund either.
But her father simply opposed the relationship, while Lila, despite looking down on her and her family, still pretended to be loving and caring, acting as if she cared, when in reality she just
wanted to use her. It was truly disgusting.
Now, she just wanted to expose Lila’s hypocrisy.
“Please let go,” Kaneeta said coldly.
Lila instinctively released her grip, and Kaneeta pulled her
suitcase toward the door.
Edmund quickly caught up to her and grabbed her wrist.
“Neeta! It’s so late, where can you go?”
Kaneeta found it amusing–there were hotels everywhere
outside, where couldn’t she go?
Chapter 29
“It’s none of your business. Let go!”
Kaneeta forcefully shook off his hand.
Nyasia, who had been standing aside all this time, was burning
with anger.
She had thought it was Edmund who dumped Kaneeta, but to her surprise, it was Kaneeta who initiated the breakup!
How dare she?
And yet, Edmund and Lila were still trying to keep her!
She was even putting on an air of superiority!
“Kaneeta, you’re too much! Who are you pretending to be?”
As she spoke, she walked over and, without warning, raised her
hand and gave Kaneeta a hard shove.
Kaneeta hadn’t expected her to get physical. Off balance, she fell backward, hitting the back of her head on the cabinet behind her.
For a moment, stars danced before her eyes.
