Chapter 11
I ran back through the rain, soaked to the bone and shivering.[]
When I pushed open the dorm door, my roommates were chatting away.
They stared at my pathetic, dripping mess for a second, then burst out laughing.]
“Look what the cat dragged in.“]
“Serves you right for stalking Dylan.“[]
“Right? He’s got a new girlfriend and you still can’t take a hint.“[]
Lignored them and headed straight for my closet to grab a towel.[]
But when I opened it, everything was gone.[]
Towels, clothes, toiletries–completely cleaned out.[]
“You guys…” I turned around, my voice scratchy from running in the cold rain.[]
“Oh, your stuff?” Sarah said casually. “We threw it all out.”
“What gives you the right!“]
“What gives us the right?” Sarah laughed coldly. “This is our room, and we don’t want parasites here.“[]
“Your stuff’s in the trash. Go dig it out yourself.“[]
I ran to the hallway and started digging through the garbage.[]
My towels were cut to shreds. My clothes were covered in black ink. My shampoo bottles were completely emptied.[]
I crouched there by the trash can, shaking all over. From the cold, from rage–I couldn’t tell anymore.[]
That night I spiked a fever. Laid in bed completely out of it, burning up.[]
My roommates didn’t give a damn. They were actually enjoying it.[]
“Good. That’s what you get for standing in the rain!“]
“Stop acting pitiful. Think Dylan’s gonna come take care of you?“]
IN
“Dream on. He’s probably with Madison right now.“[]
My whole body was burning up, everything felt fuzzy and wrong. I needed to get to a hospital but couldn’t even sit up. I was dying of thirst but my nightstand was empty.]
I thought about calling Dylan. My hands were shaking as I grabbed my phone and scrolled through my contacts.[]

Chapter 11
My finger hovered over his name. I couldn’t press it.[]
Would he even come? Would he care? Or would he just say “it’s just a cold“?]
Finally, I called.[]
It rang forever. So long I thought he wouldn’t pick up.
“Hello?” He sounded annoyed, with restaurant noise in the background.[]
“Dylan…” My voice was completely shot, could barely get the words out.]
“What’s up?” he asked, barely paying attention.[]
“I… I’m really sick…”
“ph. Just take some Tylenol and drink lots of water.“[]
His voice was so cold it hurt worse than the fever.]
I could hear Madison in the background: “Dylan, our food’s getting cold! Come on.”
“Be right there,” he told her, then said to me: “Look, I gotta run.”
“Dylan…“]]
Click.
He hung up on me.
I stared at my phone as tears streamed down my face.]]
So while I was dying alone in my dorm, he was out having a nice dinner with her. I wasn’t even worth five minutes of his time.]]
Finally this girl from the room next door heard me groaning and came to check.]
“Holy shit, you’re burning up!” She didn’t even hesitate–just got me to the ER.]
The doctor said I hit 103.6 degrees–any later and I could’ve had brain damage.]]
“How could you wait this long with a fever this high?” the doctor scolded while writing my prescription.[]
“Where’s your family? Your friends? Why are you here alone?“]
The girl who brought me answered: “Her roommates don’t give a damn about her.“[]
The doctor shook his head. “Kids these days are so heartless.“[]
While I was getting an IV, Dylan texted me.]
