Chapter 19
When Chloe and her family arrived, Violet was quick to greet
them with cutting sarcasm. “Oh, Chloe, you’re here! Zick is just
as delicate and cute as Howard was as a kid, and he’s the
legitimate great–grandson of the Whitmore family. Mrs.
Whitmore absolutely adores him.”
“By the way, when is Mason getting hitched to the Fitzgerald
family? I’ve been waiting forever to drink at that wedding
banquet!” she added.
Right on point, deliberately hitting a sore spot. Violet knew
Chloe hated the Fitzgerald family lady and wanted to embarrass
her.
Sure enough, Chloe was flustered but forced a smile. “Violet,
congratulations on your precious grandson. As for Mason and
Ms. Fitzgerald, that’s up to the young people to handle. We’re
old, can’t meddle in the young ones‘ affairs anymore.”
The Whitmore family had a marriage alliance with the
Fitzgerald family; the heir was to marry Miss Luna Fitzgerald.
When Howard got married, Chloe had urged Mason to hurry up and marry and have kids, so he wouldn’t be outshone by Violet.
Chapter 19
But Mason wouldn’t listen, saying work was too busy for
marriage.
When pushed hard, he even moved into the office, rarely
coming home since.
Chloe waited patiently for Mason to have free time.
One whole year passed, her nephew was already born, but she
still hadn’t seen any progress.
Though Chloe disliked Luna Fitzgerald, the alliance was
arranged by the family patriarch and had to be respected.
Pressed down by Violet, Chloe couldn’t help feeling uneasy.
Violet didn’t care if Chloe felt bad, as long as she felt good.
“That’s not good enough. If Mason is busy, you, as his mother,
should worry more.”
“Don’t let it be that by the time Howard has a second kid, Mason
and Ms. Fitzgerald still have no news!”
Two shots fired back–to–back, and Chloe was embarrassed,
powerless to reply.
She could only swallow her pride and nod.
Chapter 19
Her eldest son wasn’t making her proud; no grandson yet.
With the Whitmore family celebrating a new addition,
naturally, many guests came, mostly prominent figures in
Yealchinn.
Nobles and wealthy families were too numerous to count.
From a glance, people gathered in threes and fives, chatting
about all sorts of topics.
Aria wasn’t interested. She just came to show face and enjoy
some free food and drink.
After putting on a show of sisterly affection with Chloe and
Tessa, she grabbed a glass of champagne and headed for the
snacks at the back.
The food at the five–star hotel was a rare treat; she wasn’t about
to miss out.
Today, Aria wore a pale purple, diamond–embellished off-
shoulder evening gown, which perfectly outlined her curves.
She caught the eyes of several young men, all wondering which little princess she was, so beautiful.
Ignoring their admiring glances, Aria just went straight for the good eats.
Chapter 19
“Sure is a country bumpkin, doesn’t even know the basics of
etiquette. Tsk, wearing that dress on you really brings down its
value.”
Aria turned her head and saw Autumn, a classmate of Tessa,
standing behind her, holding a half–finished champagne glass.
She looked over her dress. “Oh, I’m actually wearing a matching
set with Tessa. She picked it out herself.”
“So if you say I don’t look good, you’re basically saying her taste
sucks!”
The Whitmore family cared a lot about appearances. No matter how much they disliked Aria at home, they always gave her
enough face in public.
“You?” Autumn was so mad she was grinding her teeth, but
couldn’t come up with a comeback.
She hadn’t expected Aria to suddenly get so sharp–tongued.
“If Miss Aria has nothing else, I’ll take my leave.”
The desserts were too good, and Aria was stuffed. She needed to
walk it off.
She couldn’t be bothered to deal with Tessa’s little suck–ups, just
mindless pups barking.
Chapter 19
A few words shut them down without rebuttal; not the
brightest bunch. Arguing with people like them just made one
look dumb.
As soon as Aria stepped into the banquet hall, someone called
her over. It was Willow who wanted to see her.
When Willow called her, it definitely wasn’t for anything good.
Good things in the Whitmore family usually didn’t include her.
