Chapter 13
Harper vomited violently, her eyes brimming with tears, her limbs weak. After rinsing her mouth and washing her hands, she walked out and was startled to see Mason standing at the door. She immediately stood up straight, bent her back, lowered her neck slightly, and stammered, “Mr. Brooks.”
Having endured such humiliation and aggrievce, she could act as if nothing had happened and still address him as Mr. Brooks.
No matter what, Mason couldn’t believe this was Harper. “You knew the consequences of coming here, yet you still came?”
“Ethan was just joking with me.” Harper was good at swallowing her suffering. This torment was nothing.
“Ethan?”
She still called Ethan sweetly, but addressed him as Mr. Brooks, clearly distancing herself. For no reason, Mason found it laughable and felt a surge of anger. “He’s not your brother anymore. If you want to play relatives, you’ve got the wrong person.”
When Harper and Olivia were kidnapped together, Ethan, her own brother, chose to abandon his sister and save someone else. At that moment, Mason saw his guilt and remorse. He had red eyes and said he was sorry to Harper.
But when the police arrived and the kidnappers were controlled, the interrogation revealed that the kidnapping was orchestrated by Harper, and Ethan’s guilt disappeared. He himself said he didn’t have a sister like her and that it would have been better if she had died.

Harper found it ironic and forced a smile. “It should be Mr. Walker.”
“Ethan said you met Noah.”
This shouldn’t be something Mason needed to ask, but since he did, there must be a reason. Harper nodded.
“If possible, I’d rather get married early.”
She had already made it clear that she wouldn’t cling to him anymore, yet he still seemed uneasy and was eager for her to get married.
It made sense.
After all, he had finally gotten rid of her, and Mason was still feeling relieved.
“But Mr. Bennett doesn’t like me.” It was the truth. Harper didn’t want to lie anymore. Suddenly remembering something, she quickly explained, “But don’t worry, I won’t bother you because of this.”
The phone was ringing.
Harper ignored Mason’s cold, stiff expression. She turned her body slightly and covered the phone’s mouthpiece with her cold, red hand.
She responded in a low voice, “Okay, I’ll be right there.”
Mason’s words came out faster than his thoughts, “Ethan?”
“No.” Harper’s voice was muffled, “It’s Noah.”
They had agreed to spend a month together, during which Harper had to be on call for Noah, no matter how outrageous his demands were. She couldn’t refuse.
The surroundings seemed to cool down, and Harper became more sluggish, not noticing anything unusual. She continued on her own, “I’ll

Mason leaned to one side and suddenly smiled, “Noah won’t marry you. Don’t waste your time.”
In Moridise, any man from a good family wouldn’t look twice at Harper now. This was a fact that Mason didn’t need to emphasize.
Having gone through so much, Harper knew she was despised by
everyone.
Her ears were red, with brown scars left from frostbite. Her hair floated at her temples. From this angle, Mason saw her eyes again. She smiled, her eyes bright and clear, with a striking determination.
“Without trying, how can you know if the outcome will be good or not?”
Mason was reminded of the past by her smile and gaze. He had once warned her sternly, “I don’t like you, and I won’t marry you. Don’t waste your time on me.
Back then, Harper wasn’t as serious and affectionate as she is today. She just joked, “If you won’t marry me, then I’ll be your girlfriend for a lifetime.”
The memory was like a sharp blade striking her.
“It seems the last outcome didn’t teach you a lesson.”
“It’s precisely because I’ve been through it that it can’t get worse.”
She had let go of her feelings for Mason. When talking about the past, she was open and honest. She seemed to be smiling, but there was a deep sadness in her eyes. “I need to go now.”
