Chapter 1
To help his mistress get pregnant, my husband Joshua Harvick forced me to sacrifice my own life.
With witch blood running through my veins, I had the power to trade with the Dark Messenger.I pawned the most precious parts of myself in exchange for his wishes to come true.
I always believed Joshua loved me. That’s why, over the years, I willingly gave up my sense of taste, my luck, my health, my happiness, my joy- even my dignity–for him.
And he got everything he ever wanted.
I thought it was worth it… Until he asked me to trade half of my life so the woman he truly loved could bear his child.
Broken and disillusioned, I pawned my eyes–and took myself back.

I slowly made my way back home.
Because I could no longer see, I kept falling–my arms and legs were bruised and scraped.
“Priscilla, you’re finally back. What took you so long? I was so worried about you.”
Even though I couldn’t see, my hearing had grown sharper.
When I heard the worry in Joshua’s voice, my heart softened, and tears

filled my eyes.
“Joshua…”
I fumbled my way forward and fell into a familiar, warm hug.

When he noticed the scrapes and bruises on me, his tone softened, “Why were you gone for so long? Why are you hurt?”
I opened my mouth to answer.
But before I could, he grabbed my hand again and asked urgently, “Did you trade it already? When will Amelia get pregnant?”
Maybe he was too tense to realize, but his large hand pressed hard on a wound I had on the back of my hand. It hurt so much that it made my chest ache.
That’s when I realized he only cared about Amelia Devlin.
“It’s done. I’m really tired. I just want to rest,” I said quietly, swallowing the pain in my heart.
I pulled my hand away and tried to walk off.
But he quickly held me back and asked, “Really? That means Amelia can get pregnant next month? That’s amazing!”
He was so happy that he accidentally pushed me–I stumbled.
Losing my footing, I fell to the side and hit the ground hard.
“Ouch! That hurt!”
Out of nowhere, a sharp voice rang in my ears.
“What happened, Amelia?”

Joshua quickly let go of my hand, and I crashed hard onto the cold floor.
My knee hit the corner of the table, and I felt something warm trickling down my leg. The wound had torn open again.
The pain was unbearable.
“Priscilla Marino, what are you doing?!”
I dropped to the floor, breath hitching as I tried to ease the pain in my leg
Then Joshua snapped, sounding annoyed, “Was that really necessary?

“All I asked was for you to trade a few things, and now you’re taking it out on Amelia?
“You almost made her fall!”
Lying on the floor, I couldn’t even lift my arms properly–my fingers shook, and my chest felt like it might break from the heartache.
“Apologize now!” he demanded.
“Why are you just standing there? Apologize to Amelia!”
I couldn’t see his face, but the tone of his voice made it obvious that he
was furious with me.
I felt miserable and muttered, “I didn’t see her.”
Amelia quickly snapped back, “Priscilla, don’t pretend you didn’t do it on purpose. I’m clearly standing right here, and you said you didn’t see me? What, are you blind?”
The word “blind” hit me like a slap.
“Yeah, I am blind. Can’t you tell?”

The pain in my chest was too much to hold back, and my voice broke with a sob.
“What happened?”
I sensed Joshua rushing over. He squatted beside me and grabbed my shoulders, clearly shaken.
“Weren’t you supposed to trade your lifespan? How did you end up blind?”
Hearing his concern, my heart softened a little. Maybe he still cared about
- me.
But what he said the next moment once again froze me to death.
“So you traded your eyes? Not your life?
“But didn’t the Dealbringer say a life had to be traded to have a child?
“If you only lost your sight, will that affect Amelia’s pregnancy?
“Priscilla, are you being petty and jealous again? Hiding your selfish motives?”
When Joshua started asking questions in a panic, that was the moment the last of my feelings for him died.
I knew I’d made the right choice to trade my eyes for myself.
didn’t say a word. Instead, I forced myself to stand and slowly head upstairs.
Maybe Joshua noticed how I was feeling because he quickly reached out to help me.
His tone softened as he said, “I’m sorry, Priscilla. I only asked that

because I was worried about you. Please don’t take it the wrong way.
“You’ve had a tough day. I’ll have Mila make you a healthy meal to help
you recover.”
I didn’t respond and kept walking up the stairs, feeling my way step by
step.
After resting in bed for a while, I finally got a bit of energy back. Then the servant, Mila Previn, called me down to eat.
I made my way downstairs again slowly, using my hands to guide me.
But the moment I sat at the table, a sharp smell of spicy chili filled my
nose.
At that point, all I could feel was how painfully ironic it was.
