“Charlie!”
Halfway through their meal, a familiar voice suddenly rang out from outside.
Charlotte’s expression instantly darkened, and the food before her suddenly lost its appeal.
“Come out, please! If you don’t, I’ll kneel here until you do!”
Ethan walked to the window and looked out. Mason was swaying at the door, apparently drunk.
“He’s been drinking.”
Charlotte put down her fork. “I don’t want to see him.”
“Then I’ll have someone remove him.”
“Don’t bother. Let him do what he wants.”
She had experienced too much these past days and was truly exhausted, too tired to deal with him anymore.
”
Ethan looked at the woman’s weary face and picked up his phone to call his assistant.
“Book two tickets to the Maldives, the earliest flight possible. Also, reserve a hotel there for one month.”
“You’re going on vacation?”
“Yes, I’ve been wanting to for a while.”
Ethan smiled at her. “Want to come along?”
Charlotte hadn’t expected him to go this far for her.
“Ethan, you really don’t have to…”
“Don’t overthink it. I’m tired too and could use a good rest.”
Ethan reached out, gently ruffling her bangs.
“I need company. You’re perfect.”
“But what about the company…?”
“Don’t worry about it. Reed Group isn’t some rinky–dink operation that falls apart when someone takes a vacation. It’ll survive just fine without us.”
“Charlie! Come out! I won’t leave until I see you today!”
“Charlie! I’ve sent Sophia away. I’ll never see her again. Please forgive me. Give me one more chance, okay?”
“I was wrong. I shouldn’t have doubted you. I shouldn’t have hurt you. Charlie… don’t leave me…”

Mason sat down right outside the door. Charlotte pulled the curtains closed, not wanting to look at him even once.
Soon, the assistant called back.
“Mr. Reed, the earliest flight to the Maldives is in three hours. Should we book for tomorrow instead?”
Ethan didn’t answer, but looked toward Charlotte. “Feel like taking a spontaneous trip?”
“Now?”
Charlotte raised an eyebrow. “Sure, but Mason’s guarding the door…”
“You’re on the ground floor. We can climb out through the back window.”
Ethan was a man of action. He quickly helped Charlotte climb out through the study window.
As they left in a taxi, Mason was still calling outside the door: “Charlie, I miss you so much! Just one meeting, please? I know I was wrong–I was totally wrong. It was all my fault!”
The car drove past behind him, but he didn’t notice.
Charlotte watched his silhouette and whispered: “Mason, if I could, I wish I’d never met you at all.”
Mason shouted at Charlotte’s door all night until neighbors complained to the property management.
Early the next morning, security arrived. “Sir, please leave. There have been complaints about your shouting. Please stop yelling!”
Mason had been calling all night, his voice hoarse, but he never saw a glimpse of Charlotte.
He’d confirmed she was home when he arrived, so why wouldn’t she come out to see him?
“I need to see Charlotte West, the owner of this apartment!”
Mason, now fully sober, grabbed the security guard’s collar, demanding entry.
The guard frowned. “Sir, if you continue like this, I’ll have to call the police!”
“I’m the man of this house! I need to see my wife! Open the door now, or I swear I’ll make your life miserable!”
“Isn’t that Mr. Sullivan? Ms. West’s husband?”
Someone recognized him. “Oh my, Mr. Sullivan, didn’t your wife leave in a car last night? You didn’t know?”
Mason grabbed the person’s hand. “Where did she go? Do you know where she went?”
“How would I know? I just saw her leave with some man! Mr. Sullivan, are you and your wife having problems?”
“I’ll pay you–just tell me where she went. How much do you want? One hundred thousand? Two hundred thousand? A
million?”
“Are you crazy? I really don’t know!”
The woman pulled away her hand and walked off.
Everyone gathered around, pointing and whispering about Mason.

Chapter 24
Only when security confirmed his identity and let him into the apartment, revealing Charlotte truly wasn’t there, did he believe she had really left.
In the following days, he staked out Ethan’s company, but never caught a glimpse of Charlotte.
He panicked, hiring numerous private investigators, but they couldn’t discover where Charlotte had gone.
