Chapter 21
The next moment, Sophia’s voice came from the recorder:
“I never imagined you’d rather die than let Mr. Wallace have you!”
Then came Charlotte’s voice:
“I never had Mr. Wallace harass you. Sophia, what have you done that I haven’t even settled scores with you for, yet you dare show your face to me?”
“Yes, I staged the whole thing. So what? I promised Mr. Wallace that if he helped with my little act, I’d give him a chance to have you! He said he’d had his eye on you for a long time. Wouldn’t that be perfect? Since Mason doesn’t want you anymore! At your age, you should be grateful anyone wants you at all. Why jump out a window?”
“No, it’s not like that–it’s fake.”
Sophia shook her head frantically, trying to explain to Mason. “It’s not what you heard. Mason, believe me! Ethan fabricated this recording to protect Charlotte and frame me! It’s fake!”
“Fake?”
Mason gripped her wrist so tightly it felt like he could crush her bones.
“Do you think I’m an idiot? Do you think I can’t recognize your voice?”
“That hurts, Mason, let go…”
Sophia tried playing the damsel in distress again, thinking Mason would cave, but he shocked her by immediately calling his
assistant instead.
“Thoroughly investigate what happened that day. If it’s true–if Charlie jumped and broke her leg because of Sophia–she’ll pay the price!”
“Yes, sir. I’ll get on it immediately.”
“Also, take her back. Don’t let her step foot outside without my permission!”
“No, no, I don’t want to go!”
Sophia ran toward the exit like a madwoman, but the bodyguards quickly caught and removed her.
The hall suddenly fell silent. Everyone exchanged glances, hardly daring to breathe.
Today’s drama had certainly been spectacular.
“I’m sorry, Charlie.”
Mason felt utterly foolish. He had actually believed Sophia’s one–sided account, thinking Charlotte would harm someone,
But after five years of marriage, he should have known that while Charlotte appeared to be a tough businesswoman who acted decisively, she was extremely kind hearted.
She couldn’t even kill a fish, so how could she let Mr. Wallace force a young girl into bed?

Chapter 21
He had been wrong–terribly wrong.
“I’m tired.”
Charlotte wearily rubbed her temples. She was genuinely exhausted, no longer wanting to get entangled with Mason.
“Mason, in short, we’re already divorced, with no relationship whatsoever. As for the remarriage you mentioned, it’s impossible. From the moment I jumped from that bar window, I gave up on you. I don’t love you anymore, and I don’t want to see you! Stop bothering me.”
With that, Charlotte walked away on her crutches.
Watching her struggling figure, Ethan went over and picked her up in his arms.
“Ah!”
Charlotte was startled. “What are you doing? Put me down.”
“Stop pushing yourself. What’s wrong with me carrying you once?”
Ethan carried her toward the exit. “You don’t need to act strong in front of me.”
Charlotte said nothing, gradually relaxing and resting comfortably in his arms.
Listening to his strong heartbeat, she felt a long–forgotten sense of security.
Meanwhile, Mason stood silently watching them leave, his heart aching as if stabbed.
The person who should be carrying Charlotte was supposed to be him.
“Mr. Sullivan, what should we do with these items?”
The bodyguards stood behind him, carefully holding the auction purchases.
“Donate them all.”
Mason sighed, his face filled with disappointment.
“When Charlie says she won’t accept something, she absolutely means it.”
