“Excellent! I’ll give you five percent of Reed Group’s shares, make you advertising director, double your salary, plus year–end bonuses. Any objections?”
Ethan made his offer, and Charlotte nodded. “No objections.”
“When can you start?”
Ethan curved his thin lips into a smile, mischievous yet lazy.
“I can’t wait to see Mason’s face when he learns you’re working for me.”
“You’re overthinking. He probably won’t care at all.”
“You don’t understand him well enough. He’ll definitely care! Rest well. I’ll pick you up tomorrow for work.”
“No need. Take me now. I want to review your advertising department’s materials as soon as possible.”
Charlotte stood with her crutch. Ethan’s handsome brows furrowed. “Ms. West, which is more important–your health or work?”
“Both are important.”
Charlotte looked up, her eyes dimmed.
“My mother is still in intensive care. I need money.”
Now divorced, she needed to rely on herself more than ever.
Seeing the determination in her eyes, Ethan’s stern face softened. “Don’t worry. I’ll take responsibility for your mother’s medical care.”
“No need.”
Charlotte refused without hesitation. “I can manage on my own.”
Mason had once said the same thing–that if she married him, she’d never have to worry about her mother’s medical expenses.
But when it mattered, he used her mother’s life to threaten her.
She’d had enough. From now on, she would rely only on herself.
Ethan’s eyes flashed with sympathy, and he sighed. “You don’t have to pretend to be strong.”
“I don’t think we know each other that well yet.”
Charlotte walked toward the hospital exit. “Let’s go to your company!”
Watching her retreating figure, Ethan murmured: “Charlotte, I hope one day you’ll turn around and see me.”
At Reed Group, Charlotte sat on the sofa, reviewing documents.
Her leg still bandaged, she bit her pen cap, brows furrowed in concentration.

At his desk, the man’s sharp jawline tensed as he noticed her expression. “What’s wrong? Is it that bad?”
“Not at all.”
Charlotte shook her head. “It’s actually quite good.”
“For you to say ‘quite good,‘ it must really be decent.”
Ethan came over, sitting beside her.
He noticed she had nearly finished reviewing the advertising department’s materials, with dense notes written all over them.
“You’re very thorough.”
“You recruited me, offering double my salary. Shouldn’t I be working hard?”
Charlotte raised an eyebrow. “Speaking of which, I’ve been in your office for almost two days. Shouldn’t you arrange an office
for me?”
“It’s ready. Want to see it?”
“Sure.”
Charlotte put down the documents and followed Ethan on her crutches to her new office.
Upon arrival, she discovered that from her office window, she could clearly see Mason’s office.
She smiled wryly. “You did this on purpose?”
Ethan’s stern face broke into a playful smile as he leaned against the doorframe. “Don’t worry. He can see you, but you can’t see him. I won’t let him upset you.”
“Why would you do that?”
“I want him to know that the person he cherished most now works for me. I want him to see but not touch, to drive him crazy every single day. How’s that sound?”
Charlotte shook her head helplessly. Indeed, men would always be boys at heart.
She’d heard these two had been rivals since childhood.
Even now, they still acted like children.
“Fine, I’ll take this office. The view is great.”
“As long as you’re happy.”
“Mr. Reed, Mr. Sullivan is here. He says he needs to see you and Director West.”
After the secretary spoke, Ethan and Charlotte exchanged a glance.
When he saw Charlotte sit down in her chair, completely unresponsive to Mason’s name, he understood.
“Alright. Have him wait in my office.”
