Chapter 15
Maverick continued the phone call, discussing various work arrangements.
I observed Bella, who had already woken up.
“Your complexion looks much better. Eating and sleeping well really helps with recovery. Your eyes have life in them now.”
I followed Bella’s direct gaze.
“Does Bella want the bunny pillow?”
I glanced at Maverick, who was still on the phone, and comforted Bella to wait a moment.
Perhaps sensing Bella’s gaze, Maverick looked over.
The pillow Bella wanted was soon in her arms.
“Mommy, hug.”
Bella wrapped her arms around the bunny pillow, burying her whole face in it.
I turned my head away, steadying my breathing.
Maverick’s phone conversation also ended.
He crouched in front of Bella, enveloping both her and the pillow in his embrace.
“Bella hug.” The man’s voice was gentle.
I rubbed my stinging eyes and gently moved closer.
Maverick had made thorough preparations for my case.
He also seriously consulted about adopting Bella.
To adopt Bella, he couldn’t avoid the Hartwell family.
After all, Maverick and I had no legal adoption relationship.
Soon, the court date arrived.
In court, the Hartwell family did everything possible to reduce Derek’s sentence, deliberately trying to shift some blame onto Chloe.
Chloe’s face grew paler and paler, but fortunately Maverick had arranged a lawyer for her in advance.
Neither Derek nor Chloe could escape the punishment they deserved.
Maverick had firmly controlled the situation of this battle.
The Hartwell family decisively abandoned Derek, and Maverick secured a heavy sentence for him.
The case regarding me, Paisley Morrison, was officially closed.
“I finally escaped that nightmare.”
But my heart didn’t feel relief or liberation.

Chapter 15
Maverick took Bella to the unsealed neighboring villa.
Standing at the gate looking in again, I still felt heavy.
The villa and courtyard clearly hadn’t been maintained for some time.
Though desolate, it no longer had that bone–chilling coldness.
Bella was very quiet in Maverick’s arms.
Seeing she showed no bad reactions, I felt slightly relieved.
Maverick walked around inside.
Only then did I realize the interior layout of Maverick’s villa was identical to this one.
I floated up to the roof, observing both villas from above.
The view from up high was very open.
“I think I’m truly free now.” I felt somewhat emotional.
We didn’t stay there long.
Back at the villa, I noticed Maverick had an extra ring in his hand.
“Is this my coming–of–age ring?”
I moved closer to examine it–sure enough, my name was engraved inside the band.
“Derek took it before. I thought I’d never find it again.”
I watched Maverick carefully inspect the ring.
He meticulously photographed the ring from every angle.
Then he solemnly placed the ring in his chest pocket.
“Paisley, I’ll take you with me to live well.”
His hand covered the pocket containing the ring, as if making a devout oath.
Feeling Maverick’s precious care, I was somewhat overwhelmed.
“Though Uncle has always been good to me… but it’s different now.”
I realized something,
“But I can’t respond to these feelings anymore.”
I rubbed my uncomfortably tight chest and turned to accompany Bella.
Maverick was busy on the side.
After handling work messages, he started packing luggage.
He also had to answer phone calls from time to time.
“Where is Maverick going?” I was somewhat curious.

Chapter 15
Just then, his assistant came to the villa.
“Mr. Rhodes, the house over there has been reorganized according to your requirements.”
Maverick nodded: “Prepare to head over now.”
The assistant acknowledged and took out the luggage Maverick had packed earlier.
Maverick walked over and picked up Bella.
“Bella, I’ll take you to see where Mommy used to live.”
Bella’s eyes widened as she looked at Maverick.
