Chapter 11
Maverick rushed to the police station with Bella.
After getting out of the car at the station entrance, he handed Bella to a bodyguard he’d hired.
Bella didn’t react much, but Maverick still instructed the bodyguard.
“Make sure Bella can see me. When you need to shield her from things, take good care of her.”
Without stopping, he met up with his approaching assistant.
“Mr. Rhodes, we caught Derek. He’s inside.”
“He says he’ll only reveal Miss Morrison’s whereabouts if he sees you.”
Maverick nodded to his assistant and, guided by police, went to see Derek.
I found Derek looking quite disheveled–his hair was messy and there were scratches on his face.
Maverick got straight to the point: “Where did you hide Paisley?“.
Derek sneered mockingly: “Maverick, do you really want to know?”
“Paisley was killed by you.”
“She called begging you to save her so many times–you personally refused her.”
Maverick clenched his fists but didn’t let the topic get derailed.
“Where. Did you hide. Paisley.”
His tone was so cold it made even me shiver.
Derek looked at Maverick and seemed even more excited..
“What I hid was a corpse, not a person. Are you that afraid of the truth?”
“Admit it, Maverick. You’re just a weak, incompetent hypocrite.”
He tried to stand but was cuffed to the chair.
Derek looked at Maverick with hatred in his eyes.
“Chloe told me herself that you and Paisley had a disgusting, incestuous relationship, and you didn’t want responsibility so you forced her on me.”
Maverick angrily interrupted: “Paisley and I never!”
He tried to lunge forward but was held back by officers.
I covered my mouth in disbelief–all this was beyond what I’d expected.
Derek seemed satisfied seeing Maverick like this.
“I beat her every day. Paisley would always call for you to save her. The more she struggled, the more I whipped her.”
“I toyed with her like a dead fish for three years. You lived right next door and didn’t notice anything? YOU killed her!”

Chapter 11
Maverick’s eyes went red as he roared: “Where is Paisley’s body!”
Derek stared into Maverick’s eyes but spoke to the police word by word.
“Get him out of here, and I’ll talk.”
“DEREK!” Maverick tried to charge forward but was held and escorted out by officers.
Derek’s voice was sinister as he stared straight at Maverick like an evil spirit.
“You all forced me to this. Paisley died horribly, and you won’t have it easy either.”
“The Hartwell family won’t let you go.”
Derek said that last sentence very quietly, almost in a whisper.
I didn’t know if Maverick heard it, but I was worried.
“My daughter is still so small–would the Hartwell family hurt Bella?”
After being brought outside, Maverick seemed completely drained.
He slumped against the hallway wall, his dejection impossible to hide.
“Paisley, I was wrong. It was all my fault.”
I watched his tears fall one by one to the ground, but they splashed like ripples in my heart.
“Derek is the real culprit. I know you didn’t want this either.”
I looked at this man who had once shielded me from every storm, now helplessly huddled against the wall crying.
People came and went in the police station hallway, and soon news arrived.
“Found it! It’s been sent for comparison now.”
The moment Maverick heard this, he looked up, staring straight at the speaking officer.
“We’ll do a simple reconstruction for Miss Morrison. Once confirmed, you can take her with you.”
Maverick nodded silently again and again.
After a long while, he finally managed a hoarse “Thank you.”
