Chapter 5
As soon as Graham opened the hospital room door, Isabelle flung herself into his arms.
“You’re finally here—I was so scared…”
Graham gave me an awkward glance before quickly peeling her off his chest.
“Where are you hurt? Let me see,” he said, flustered.
With a pitiful pout, Isabelle rolled up her pant leg—only to reveal flawless, unblemished skin.
Graham’s face went cold.
“You lied to me?”
Isabelle looked down at her leg in shock.
“No–no, that’s impossible! I was bleeding just a moment ago! I swear, look–there’s blood on my pants!”
Graham’s eyes scanned her, his expression hardening.
I stepped forward, pretending to defend her.
“Maybe she just… still has feelings for you. Just let this one slide.”
My words only poured oil on the fire.
“Enough,” Graham snapped, voice ice–cold. “Skylar gave up her child’s life to bring you back. And now you pull this?”
But the truth was–Isabelle hadn’t lied.
The reason her wound healed so quickly…
Was because she wasn’t human anymore. Werewolves possess extraordinary regenerative abilities.
Under the moonlight, her skin cracked open. Coarse, gray–black fur surged across her limbs like a wave. “Why won’t you believe me? I’m telling the truth!”
I lunged forward as if to hold her back–but she shoved me aside with inhuman strength. I hit the floor hard
Graham shoved her away, rushing to my side.
“Where are you hurt?”
I shook my head.
“Why did you-‘
But Graham never finished the question.
Because when he turned back and saw Isabelle’s face, his breath caught.
“You… you…”
He staggered back, knocking over the IV stand behind him.
As those glowing green eyes closed in on him, his own eyes rolled back.
Graham collapsed.
Isabelle–no longer Isabelle–locked her animal gaze on me next.
I gripped the syringe tightly in my palm, just about to act

When the crackle of electricity sliced through the air.
Dr. Langley stood in the doorway, a high–voltage taser in hand. Isabelle dropped like a stone.
“Tie her down!”
He tossed me a bundle of reinforced restraints.
Together, we managed to strap the fully–shifting Isabelle to the hospital bed.
Graham stirred.
He opened his eyes–and saw the snarling creature bound to the mattress.
His face twisted in horror.
“What the hell is this? You said… she wouldn’t shift…”
Then his gaze snapped to me.
“You said your blood wouldn’t cause mutation. What the hell is happening?!”
Tears shimmered in my eyes. I bit my lip.
“I… I didn’t know. I didn’t mean for this to happen. I’ve always been the victim here…”
He faltered.
He remembered–he had always been the one forcing me. Never the other way around.
Silence fell.
Until Dr. Langley broke it.
“Her condition is clearly the result of exposure to mutated werewolf blood. If you want even a chance of reversing this, I need funding
now. I might be able to develop an antidote.”
Graham’s eyes lit up at the possibility.
“Fine. Whatever you need.”
“And I want her,” Dr. Langley added, pointing directly at me.
“No.”
Graham didn’t hesitate
I blinked, stunned.
Even with the truth laid bare, even with Isabelle snarling like an animal behind him–he still wouldn’t let Dr. Langley cursed under his breath.

“If there’s any chance of turning Isabelle back, she holds the key. Are you really going to wait until it’s too late?” Graham’s hand trembled.
Behind us, Isabelle let out a long, guttural howl–no longer human in voice or spirit.
After a tense pause, Graham gritted his teeth.
“Three days. If you so much as scratch her, I’ll kill you myself.”
I exhaled slowly. Deal made.
“Fine.”

As we left, Dr. Langley tugged my wrist, and with a swift motion, traced three words into my palm: Trust. In. Me.
We slipped out of the hospital.
The night air hit like a wave–cold, sharp, laced with the sterile tang of antiseptic.
Dr. Langley stopped suddenly on the pavement.
“The deal’s done,” he said, voice even. “Congratulations.”
He met my eyes.
“You’re free now.”
