Chapter 13
Alexander was caught off guard by the confrontation, left speechless and uncomfortable.
Ruby said gently, “Vivi, we’re the younger generation. We shouldn’t speak to Dad like that.”
“Ruby, shut up!” Violet shot her a sharp glare and sneered, “Now you want to talk about respecting your elders? Where was your sense of shame when you climbed into your brother–in–law’s bed?!”
Ruby’s face turned pale. She hadn’t expected the usually gentle Violet to suddenly turn on her like this.
“Vivi, I…”

Violet spat on the floor, disgusted. “Don’t call me that. What kind of sister am I to you? We don’t even share blood!
“Your mother was a maid, and you’ve done nothing but occupy a place that was never yours. You were given the title of the Martins’s daughter out of pity–don’t let it go to your head. Know your place.
“If your mother hadn’t pulled those tricks back then, you’d just be another maid in this estate. And you think you’re qualified to call me your sister?
“You’re nothing.”
Each sentence from Violet hit like a slap, leaving everyone in stunned silence.
Was this really the timid Violet they

remembered?
She had always been nearly invisible in the Martins. Even the staff barely acknowledged
her because she was so easy to push
around. But now–it was like she had become a different person.
Even Gabriel found her unfamiliar, but in a way, he liked it.
The old Violet had always been meek around him, never dressed up, and frankly, was boring.
But now, she radiated a presence he couldn’t ignore.
He stood up, almost without thinking, and walked toward her.

“Vivi, I-”
Before he could touch her, Violet slapped his hand away coldly. Her eyes were icy. “Gabriel, don’t touch me with those filthy hands of yours. There are so many women in the world. You just had to sleep with Ruby. Were you trying to disgust me?”
Gabriel instinctively tried to explain, “Vivi, no–it wasn’t like that. She came to me, I…” Ruby had already lost all her dignity. With Alexander and Isabella watching, she couldn’t let things get worse.
“Gab, what are you even saying!”
Gabriel snapped back to reality, shocked by his own words.
Wasn’t Ruby the one he cared about most? What he just said could ruin her completely.

Watching him falter between two women, Violet’s smirk turned even colder.
She must’ve been blind back then, to ever think someone like him had saved her.
Isabella’s voice cut through the tension, cold and accusing. “Violet, what do you mean by that? What do you mean Rue slept with her brother–in–law?”
Violet spoke clearly, enunciating every word. “Your precious Rue seduced my husband the moment she got back from London.
“Oh wait–my ex–husband, I should say.
“Betray me once, and I won’t give you a second chance. Since Ruby likes trash like him so much, I’m happy to let you all have him.”

Gabriel’s face reddened while Ruby was too ashamed to even lift her head.
Isabella looked stunned at first, but seeing Ruby crying, her heart softened.
Ruby knelt on the floor, tears streaming down her face like a tragic heroine. Anyone unaware of the truth might think Violet was the one bullying her.
“Mom, Dad, I’m sorry! I’ve embarrassed you… But I just… I can’t forget Gab!”
Isabella swallowed the harsh words she’d been about to say. All that remained was a helpless sigh.
“Oh, sweetie… how could you be so foolish?”
Isabella turned to Violet, her voice strained.

“Violet, I know this was your sister’s fault, and she’s young and impulsive. But you’re the older one–can’t you just let it go? We’re a family. Do we really need to air all this out like this?”
