Chapter 80
“Sadie, it’s me, your uncle. You’ve already suffered too much. I swear, I’ll make them pay for what they did to you.“}
His voice was deep and steady, filled with both rage and warmth.
Behind him, his bodyguards moved with military precision. In a matter of seconds, they had Denton’s men pinned to the ground.”
My uncle gently scooped me into his arms like I was made of glass. For the first time in what felt like forever, I felt safe, and that long–lost sense of warmth and protection hit me all at once. As such, I couldn’t hold back the tears anymore, and everything blurred.
I looked past his shoulder and saw Denton. His once cold and unreadable face was now frozen in shock and disbelief.”
He stepped forward instinctively, but one of my uncle’s guards raised a hand and blocked him without a word. My uncle also turned slightly and gave Denton a sharp look, and that single glance made him freeze in place.
For the first time in his life, Denton stood helpless. The man who always controlled everything was now being watched, dismissed, and ignored. And the woman he once held power over was being carried away right in front of him like something precious, something he could no longer touch.”
“Sadie!” he shouted, voice trembling with rage. “Don’t think just because you’ve got someone backing you now, you can run forever!”
Even so, my uncle didn’t even look back and just ordered his men, “Take her away.“”
I was then placed into a bulletproof luxury car. Through the tinted windows, I saw Denton losing his mind, trying to chase after us, but the convoy was already gone. He disappeared from view as we sped down the road.
A leaned my head against the cool glass, exhausted beyond words. There was no victory in me, no satisfaction. Just emptiness. In seven years of our marriage, two lives were already lost, and I was also left broken. I had given everything to that man, and all I got in return was the complete destruction of my world.
Third Person’s POV
The next day, Denton smashed every piece of glass in his office.
“She ran? She actually ran?!“}
His voice roared through the building like a wounded beast.”
“Find out who that man was! Who the hell are these Middletons and what’s their background? I don’t believe she can just disappear!“\
But after a while, his assistant stepped forward, nervous and pale. “Sir, we couldn’t find anything.“”
“What do you mean, nothing?” he shouted and kicked the coffee table. Glass shattered across the floor.”
“We traced the man who took her,” the assistant stammered, “He’s the CEO of the Northern Star Trading Group, one of the largest commercial empires in Northern Europe, and he’s her uncle.”
Denton froze.”
“Northern Star Trading Group… just how powerful are they?“”
The assistant swallowed hard before explaining, “They operate globally. Military tech, finance, shipping, intelligence… you name it, they’re in it. Your family’s entire fortune is just a drop in their ocean in comparison. Their assets are also incredibly well–protected. We don’t even know where their main estate is located.“{
Denton’s face went pale with fury.
Everything he prided himself on was nothing in their eyes. He wasn’t even in the same league.
When he got home, Melanie was lounging on the sofa with a cup of coffee in hand. She looked relaxed, even pleased.
As soon as he walked in, she put down her cup and wrapped herself around his arm, her voice soft and sweet.
“Denton, let it go. That crazy woman left with another man. Clearly, she never loved you.“@
She pouted delicately, as if her words were full of concern. “She’s always been selfish. Look at her, risking her life to save that bastard child. Did she even stop to think about how you felt?”
Denton’s eyes narrowed. Her words stabbed at the sorest part of his heart.N
“She didn’t love me?“&
“Of course not. If she did, would she have just left like that without a single word? And think about it, her grandmother is clearly someone powerful. Why didn’t she ever tell you? She was hiding it from you on purpose, just to humiliate you.”
Every word Melanie spoke was like a knife, not only against Sadie, but against Denton’s pride as well. The more he thought about it, the more it stung. Every moment from the past twisted into something dark.
“Yeah.. why didn’t she tell me?” He muttered to himself.&
