Chapter 21
That day, Olivia stopped by Ethan’s office as usual, planning to have lunch with him. But before she
even got close to the Carrington Group building, Catherine stepped out and blocked her way.
Ethan had mentioned that he’d been competing with the Sinclair Group over several projects
recently.
The Sinclair Group, an old–established company, hadn’t had many opportunities to innovate in
recent years, and its business had been lukewarm at best.
Out of consideration for Olivia, Ethan had once looked after the company, offering them plenty of
support.
But now that Olivia had made it clear she wanted nothing more to do with her family, Ethan no longer felt obligated to help them.
Seeing Catherine now, looking visibly worn and anxious, Olivia immediately guessed that the
Sinclair Group must be in serious trouble.
“Olivia, sweetheart… I know I was wrong. Please, come home with me, won’t you?” Catherine
pleaded.
Worried Olivia might say no, she quickly added,
“Your father, your brother, and I–we all realize our mistakes. We’ve decided to send Lillian
in a few days. She’ll never appear in front of you again. Just forgive us this once, okay?”
away
Olivia knew full well that Catherine was only here because the Sinclair Group was desperate. Her
words weren’t sincere. They were strategic.
Still, Catherine was the woman who had raised her for over twenty years. Olivia couldn’t bring
herself to say anything too harsh. She simply brushed her mother’s hand aside and replied coolly,
“Come talk to me again after you’ve really sent Lillian away.”
And with that, she turned and walked off.
Ethan rounded the corner just in time to see her heading toward him.
“I missed you so much, Olivia,” he said, pulling her into a tight embrace.
Olivia couldn’t figure out why ever since she had left the hospital, Ethan had become noticeably

clingier. If he woke up and didn’t see her nearby, he’d get agitated. It was as if he feared she might disappear again at any moment.
“Let’s go eat. I’m not busy these days–I’ll spend all my time with you, okay?”
“Okay,” she smiled.
Outside the Carrington Group building, Lillian had secretly followed Catherine. When she overheard them saying that they would send her away for Olivia’s sake, a surge of overwhelming
hatred rose within her.
She didn’t know how long she had been standing there, but when she saw Olivia coming out of the building, looking relaxed and carefree, and compared it to her own pathetic state, something inside her snapped.
“Olivia! This is all your fault! Why did you have to wake up? Why couldn’t you have just died?!” she screamed, her expression twisted with rage.
Before Olivia could react, Lillian charged at her like a madwoman.
Back at the office, Ethan was working when a strange uneasiness washed over him. He regretted
not having Olivia stay with him. She’d barely left, and he already missed her.
He picked up his phone to call her.
((

‘Are you her family? She’s been hit by a car and there’s a lot of blood. She’s over here, hurry!”
But before he could finish, a stranger’s voice interrupted on the other end.
A car accident?
Why would Olivia be in an accident?
He had changed so much from the last lifetime and how was it still happening?
Panic took hold. Ethan bolted out of the building, heart racing, unable to think clearly.
When he arrived at the scene and saw Olivia lying unconscious in a pool of blood, his world fell
apart. He gently touched her pale face, tears falling as he called her name over and over.
“Olivia, please… wake up. Look at me…”

He sobbed uncontrollably, grief tearing him apart.
The ambulance finally arrived and rushed her to the hospital.
Outside the emergency room, Ethan sat waiting, completely beside himself with worry. Even when
the police arrived to question him, he didn’t react.
It wasn’t until they mentioned Lillian’s name that his focus snapped back.
A month had passed since the accident.
Lillian had been arrested and sent to prison. Ethan had finalized the business retaliation he’d been
preparing for months. The Sinclair Group had officially declared bankruptcy.
But Olivia still hadn’t woken up.
