Chapter 13
Sebastian felt guilty for wrongly accusing Lillian earlier. After he calmed down, he wanted to go and apologize. But just as he reached her door, he heard something crash inside the room, followed by
Lillian’s furious voice.
“That damn Olivia! I thought once she was dead, everything would be perfect. Guess I
underestimated her. I don’t know what kind of trick she pulled, but now everyone’s mourning her
like she was a saint!”
“Even in death, she won’t let me be!”
Outside the door, Sebastian’s brows knitted tightly. At first, he’d assumed Lillian had accidentally
broken something he’d even felt a twinge of concern.
But now he withdrew his step before entering, standing outside the door in silence, even quietly holding his breath.
He wanted to hear more. He needed to know who Lillian really was when no one was watching.
And she didn’t disappoint.
“That bitch Olivia was tougher than I thought. A car crash, falling off the rooftop, none of it
managed to kill her.”
“But what good is a tough life if you end up dead anyway?”
At this, Sebastian’s breath hitched.
So it had all been Lillian. She had orchestrated everything Because she wanted Olivia dead.
Suddenly, all the strange events of the past few months started making sense.
That was why Lillian hadn’t been shocked or sad about Olivia’s death. Because she had planned it.
From the beginning, she wanted to erase Olivia and take her place in the Sinclair family.
Without warning, Sebastian shoved open the door, his eyes bloodshot as they locked onto Lillian.
Shards of glass sparkled on the floor, evidence of what had just happened.
And the woman with her twisted, contorted face, still not recovered from her outburst, was
unmistakably Lillian.

When she heard the sound and looked up, her gaze met his directly.
Gone was the gentle mask she once wore. He barely recognized this Lillian, the one who had so often leaned on the family’s indulgence to act spoiled before him.
But her words still echoed in his mind, making it all feel disturbingly believable.
Sebastian stepped closer, lowering his gaze to scrutinize her anxious expression. When he finally spoke, his voice was laced with barely contained fury.
“Lillian, what really happened when Olivia fell from the window? Was Olivia really trying to frame you?”
Lillian immediately realized he’d heard everything. She panicked but quickly forced herself to calm
down.
She reached for his hand tentatively. When he didn’t pull away, she felt a spark of hope and slipped
back into her usual innocent act.
“Sebastian, just hear me out-”
Before she could finish, Ethan’s voice echoed from downstairs, followed by the maid’s.
“Where’s Lillian?”
“Miss Lillian’s already gone to bed, sir. Perhaps come back tomorrow.‘
Then came the sound of hurried footsteps on the stairs.
Moments later, Ethan appeared before Lillian, eyes red, rage pouring off him in waves.
Seeing his furious face, Lillian was instantly seized by a wave of dread.
But after a brief pause, she composed herself. “Ethan, why are you here so late? I’m not blaming you for what happened today because I know you only acted that way because of Olivia-”
“Smack!”
Before she could finish, Ethan slapped her across the face so hard she crashed to the floor.
Holding her burning, swollen cheek, Lillian stared up at him in disbelief. Tears quickly welled in her eyes, blurring her vision so that she could barely make out his expression.
“Ethan, how could you hit me?” she choked out, her voice trembling.

That tone, vulnerable and tearful, usually got her what she wanted.
But not this time.
If anything, it only made Ethan angrier.
He lunged forward and wrapped his hand tightly around her throat, eyes burning with fury. “At this
point, are you still trying to lie your way out of this?!”
The grip on her neck tightened, stars dancing before her eyes. Overcome by suffocating pressure,
she clawed desperately at his hand.
She gasped for air, but the desperate breaths only left her throat raw and parched.
Perhaps sensing her distress, Ethan finally released her with a cruel mercy.
A terrifying red mark blossomed on Lillian’s pale neck, but she paid it no mind, greedily gulping down air, only for Ethan to yank her hair, forcing her to lift her head and look at him.
“What exactly did you do to Olivia?! Why did you lie to us?!”
Ethan threw her to the ground.
Her head slammed against the table, and blood began to seep from a cut on her forehead.
Neither man moved to help her.
Ethan tossed a pile of documents onto her, the sharp edges slicing her skin and drawing fresh
blood.
“All the evidence is right here. What more do you have to say for yourself?!”
Sebastian crouched, picking up one of the reports.
Now the truth lay bare before them.
He looked at Lillian with nothing but disgust in his eyes.
Hearing the commotion, Victor and Catherine rushed into the room. Their faces paled at the sight of Lillian on the floor, blood running down her face.
“What are you two doing to Lillian?!” Catherine cried out and rushed forward, trying to help her up, but Sebastian blocked her.
