Chapter 7
The bodyguards dragged her up to the rooftop. The night wind howled, making her frail body sway
with every gust.
To make sure she tasted despair before death, they didn’t bother to push her down immediately. Instead, they tied her to the railing with a rough hemp rope, then took out a blunt knife and began
to saw through it slowly, painfully, like carving through flesh.
Scrape–scrape-
Each stroke of the blade shredded her nerves, forcing her to feel the terror of death creeping closer,
second by agonizing second.
Olivia lowered her eyes, staring at the spot below where Vivian had leapt earlier, her blood still
staining the ground.
The rope was thinning. Her body began to sway more violently.
And then, with a soft snap, the last strand gave way.
She fell like a dead leaf.
“Thud-”
She hit the ground hard, blood blooming beneath her like a red halo in the moonlight.
The searing pain devoured her. And in the final flicker of consciousness, all she saw were the cold backs of Ethan and Sebastian, walking away without a word.
When Olivia woke up again, the blinding sunlight leaked through the gap in the curtains.
She opened her eyes with effort. Every inch of her body screamed in pain. But it also reminded her
she was still alive.
The ward door creaked open. Vivian strolled in with a group of people behind her, her expression
smug with victory.
“Well, well… you’re awake?” she cooed sweetly, towering over Olivia. “Now you finally see how much Ethan and Sebastian love me, don’t you?”
She leaned down, her breath brushing Olivia’s ear. “But let me tell you something. This is only the
beginning.”

with deadly enemies
Before Olivia could respond, Vivian suddenly raised her hand and slapped herself hard across the
face.
“Smack! Smack!”
The sharp slaps echoed harshly in the quiet ward.
Then, before Olivia could react, Vivian ripped open her collar and bolted out the door, screaming at
the top of her lungs.
“Help! Somebody help!”
Footsteps pounded down the hallway.
“What happened?” Ethan was the first to rush in, a chill clinging to his tailored suit.
Sebastian followed closely behind, his gaze turning glacial the moment it landed on Olivia.
Vivian threw herself into Ethan’s arms, sobbing hysterically. “She–she brought those men in here
to assault me!”

“Olivia!” Ethan grabbed her chin, fury burning in his eyes. “You just can’t stop, can you? Even in your condition, you’re still causing trouble?”
Olivia lay motionless on the bed, eyes blank as they stared at the ceiling. Her lips were cracked and pale, an IV needle still taped to her wrist. Her body had wasted away to skin and bones.
Her silence only enraged Ethan further. “Say something! Did you send those men after Vivi again?”
The room was deathly quiet, broken only by the steady beep–beep of the monitor.
“Fine,” Sebastian suddenly sneered. “Since you like playing dirty, then let’s lock you in here with
them.”
He turned and signaled the bodyguards. “Lock the door.”
As they dragged Vivian out, she looked back, pretending to be frightened. “Ethan, Sebastian, isn’t this too much? Putting her with those people–won’t something happen?”
“What could possibly happen?” Ethan said coldly. “She brought them here herself.”
Despite his words, both men paused in the hallway.
They listened quietly for a few seconds. Inside, silence reigned; no sound came from the room.

Only then did they leave, satisfied.
But what they didn’t know was inside, the group of men stared through the peephole until the coast
was clear.
“They’re gone,” the leader grinned, turning toward Olivia. “Time for us to take real good care of
Miss Sinclair.”
Rough hands clamped over her mouth. Her hospital gown tore with a loud rip.
Cold air bit at her exposed skin. Olivia thrashed violently.
“Let go!”
Tears blurred her vision. Her desperate muffled cries were swallowed by the filthy palm over her
mouth.
She clawed at the man’s arms, leaving deep, bloody gashes, only to be met with more brute force.
“Pfft”
Suddenly, she coughed up a mouthful of blood, staining the white sheets.
The men froze.
Then came a second and a third gush.
Blood poured uncontrollably from her lips like a burst dam, quickly soaking most of the bed.
“Shit! She’s coughing blood!”
“Get a doctor!”
Panic erupted and he backed away. Someone knocked over the IV stand, glass shattering amid the
chaos.
Olivia’s consciousness faded. In her ears were a whirlwind of frantic footsteps and blaring alarms.
“BP’s crashing! Prep for emergency resuscitation!”
“Where’s her family? Contact next of kin!” a doctor’s urgent voice came and went.
“She’s in liver failure–no clotting function–she could stop breathing any moment!”
A nurse sobbed, “We’ve called them dozens of times… Her brother and fiancé don’t believe it. They

said she bribed the doctors to fake it.”
Olivia’s unfocused eyes stared at the ceiling.
It’s almost time.
Soon enough, they’d know whether she was faking or not.
