Chapter 3
“What are you burning?” Vivian stood in the doorway, her eyes ice cold.
Olivia didn’t even look up. Calmly, she tossed another photograph into the flames.
“It has nothing to do with you.”
Vivian clicked across the room in her heels, towering over her with a sneer.
“What’s with the attitude? Do you still think you’re the high–and–mighty little Sinclair heiress?”
The firelight flickered across her heavily made–up face, casting a twisted shadow over her features.
“Let me tell you something, Olivia. You’re nothing now. Just a dog anyone can kick around.”
And with that, Vivian suddenly lifted her foot and kicked the fireplace over.
“Crash”
The burning papers scattered, and sparks flew straight onto a pile of old curtains nearby. In an
instant, flames erupted.
“What do you think you’re doing?” Olivia rushed to smother the fire, but Vivian shoved her aside.
The flames spread fast. Thick smoke began to fill the room.
“Fire! Someone help!”
Panicked shouts from the house staff echoed from downstairs, but the blaze was already out of
control.
The heat surged forward like a wave. Olivia doubled over, coughing violently as her vision blurred
in the smoke.
She tried to crawl toward the door, but Vivian grabbed her wrist and yanked her back.
“Are you trying to run?”
“Let go,” Olivia gasped. “We’ll both die.”
Vivían just smiled sweetly.
“Then we’ll die together.”

Just as they were locked in a struggle, the door slammed open.
Ethan and Sebastian stormed in, faces stricken with panic until they saw Vivian.
Relief washed over them instantly.
“What happened?” Sebastian pulled Vivian into his arms, shielding her.
“How did this fire start all of a sudden?”
Vivian’s eyes instantly brimmed with tears. She pointed at Olivia and cried,
“She went crazy! She tried to burn all of Lillian’s things. I tried to stop her, and she set the whole room on fire!”
“I didn’t-” Olivia shook her head weakly, but the smoke choked her words before they could fully
leave her mouth.
Ethan’s gaze turned cold.
He strode over and grabbed Olivia’s wrist.
“I thought you’d learned your lesson. It’s been three years, Olivia, and you’re still this unrepentant?”
Olivia opened her mouth, but no sound came out.
Her vision dimmed. In her last moment of consciousness, she heard Sebastian’s voice, cold as ice,
“Take her to the oven. Let her reflect on her actions properly.”
The guards dragged Olivia into the kitchen and shoved her into the industrial oven, already preheated.
The moment the door opened, the searing heat blasted her in the face.
She screamed as they forced her inside.
The scorching metal seared her skin with a vicious hiss.
“Ahhh-!”
Her agonized screams echoed through the kitchen. It felt like a thousand red–hot needles were
piercing her all at once. Every bead of sweat that formed was instantly vaporized.

She slammed her fists against the oven door, but no one came.
No one listened.
Gradually, her awareness began to fade. Fleeing the pain, her mind started to drift.
She saw flashes before her eyes:
Ethan holding her hand as a child, promising to protect her forever…
Her brother carrying her through the rain to the hospital when she had a fever…
Her parents lighting birthday candles while smiling down at her…
Those weren’t lies. They had once truly loved her.
So why?
Why did they all turn their backs on her?
Why did they stop loving her?
The pain tore through her body, but her sobs caught in her throat, unable to escape..
She didn’t know how long had passed before the industrial oven door finally opened.
Vivian stood there with a smile as sweet as ever.
“Let’s cool her off.”
A bucket of ice water crashed down onto her body.
“Ouch!”
The shock from blistering heat to icy cold sent her body into violent spasms.
She curled up on the ground like a dying fish.
And then, everything went black and she finally lost consciousness.
