When He chose Her Over Justice 19

When He chose Her Over Justice 19

Chapter 1

My husband is a top heart surgeon who’s saved countless dying patients.

But when he operated on our twins, he screwed up.

I was crying my eyes out holding my kids’ ashes, and he just grabbed his suitcase and rushed off.

“Luna, I’ve got an emergency work trip.”

“The kids had bad heart defects from birth-not even God could’ve saved them.”

“Just rest up. We can always have more kids.”

But that same night, Quinn-this anesthesia resident he was training-posted on Instagram.

First time helping with surgery, totally messed up the anesthesia and caused a medical accident. Almost cost me my job-ugh so annoying! Good thing my crush had my back and took me to Disney! Give me ten likes and I’ll tell him how I feel!]

The photo showed her kissing some guy’s jaw. The scar on his jaw looked exactly like Caspian’s.

My heart was already in pieces, but now it just went completely cold.

commented:

Don’t need ten likes. I’m your crush’s wife, and hey, you two have my blessing.]

he phone rang immediately. Caspian’s usually cold voice carried fury.

It’s just some kid playing truth or dare on social media. Did you really have to leave such an embarrassing comment?”

She’s new to the hospital. You’re going to ruin her career.”

If you want to lose it, fine, but don’t drag others down with you. Ten seconds-delete it, or we’re getting divorced.”

hung up and calmly added both his and the resident’s names to the list the hospital board had handed me for assignment to our African branch.

Leason: Major medical malpractice.

en seconds later, Caspian texted me a question mark.

When I didn’t respond, he sent another message.

I’ll have divorce papers delivered right now. If you want to make a scene, fine-we’ll divorce.”

finally replied: “Fine.”

His chat showed “typing…” for a while, but he never sent anything.

I screenshotted Quinn’s Disney posts along with evidence of the medical accident and sent them over.

“Caspian, she killed our kids, didn’t she?”

All I got back was a red exclamation mark.

He’d blocked me.

I went back to Instagram.

Quinn had deleted those posts, leaving only a pathetic apology.

“A patient’s family wanted to thank us for saving their child and took us to dinner. Everyone got drunk and we played games. I lost and had to do a dare-the family made me pick a random guy there to post with. Dr. Williams was just being nice so I wouldn’t feel uncomfortable. Sorry for any misunderstanding.”

The caption came with a crying, bowing cat emoji.

Caspian commented below: “Don’t worry, Quinn. I’ve got your back. Certain people better not mess with you.”

The replies flooded in:

“We all know it was just a joke! What a gross dare from the family, but what could you do?”

‘Certain people? Must be Dr. Williams’s wife, right? Poor Dr. Williams, stuck with a psycho. Her kids died because they were unlucky, but she keeps causing scenes at the hospital, claiming Dr. Williams and Quinn killed them.”

Dr. Williams protecting his people-so badass.”

smiled coldly, memorizing every single name to add to my list.

founded this private hospital to make Caspian the top cardiovascular surgeon in the country.

invested the most money and publicity.

ow he was indeed our chief physician, with everyone kissing his ass-including his precious star pupil Quinn Frost, who rose with his tide.

leanwhile, I-the hospital’s biggest shareholder-got trampled underfoot.

robably because they thought I was head-over-heels for Caspian, that my hospital only succeeded because of him.

hey figured I wouldn’t dare piss him off, that both the hospital and I were terrified of losing him.

hey forgot my hospital made him.

‘ithout him, I could cultivate plenty of other chief experts.

uinn replied to everyone’s comments with smiling cat emojis.

le sent Caspian a kissy-face emoji back.

le doorbell rang-delivery.

le courier handed me signed divorce papers and a bag.

hen I asked what it was, he stammered: “Some lady asked me to give this to you. She said you’re going through menopause and getting cranky because you’re I old hag, but she won’t hold it against you.”

his is menopause medication.”

ut you only look like, thirty-something…”

calmly told him to toss Quinn’s little gift and closed the door.

pulled out the divorce papers and carefully signed my name.

y phone buzzed with messages from the hospital’s HR director.

Ms. Carter, please reconsider? The others don’t matter, but how can you send Dr. Williams and Quinn to Africa?”

get that you’re upset about losing your kids and fighting with Dr. Williams, but keep personal and professional separate. Don’t pull this dirty crap. You’re not

1st screwing over two talented people-think of all the patients who’ll lose their chance at life.”

replied coolly: “You’re right. I forgot to deal with you too. You’re fired. I’ll have a third party take over your job.”

immediately called a management firm to handle all HR and logistics for my hospital.

Anyone who pleads for Caspian Williams and Quinn Frost gets shipped to Africa. If they refuse, make them pay back their training costs.”

gently touched my children’s urns, enunciating each word.

Every doctor supporting Quinn in those comments was a scholarship student I’d funded from poverty.

gave them opportunities, sent them abroad to study.

In the end, they all just sucked up to Caspian.

Completely forgetting who made them excellent doctors.

No wonder they followed Caspian’s lead-they were all ungrateful backstabbers cut from the same cloth.

Backstabbers make terrible doctors.

Time for them to eat some humble pie and learn what it means to have a healer’s heart.

After hanging up, I realized Caspian had called me dozens of times.

Finally, probably furious, he’d sent me a friend request with the message: “Answer your phone.”

tight then, a new call came in.

picked up.

Are you out of your goddamn mind? I’m about to get my promotion, Quinn’s about to get tenure, and you reported us for the African branch!”
