Chapter 28 Cut Her Some Slack
Entering the office, the others took their seats while Anastasia
flipped through her notes.
“We’ve invested in five dramas so far, each with a different
theme–one war drama, one historical romance, one modern
romance, one action series, and one fantasy drama. Right?
Anyone here who could tell me the reasons for investing in
them?”
Colette froze.
After a brief moment of silence, everyone started to explain.
Anastasia’s expression darkened.
Meanwhile, Colette kept a fake smile.
She said, “Ms. Carney, don’t get me wrong–I’m not saying that
you’re a layman, but it’s the truth that the drama production
industry is full of dirty tricks. Perhaps you should see how
things work in reality before making any moves.”
Anastasia’s gaze turned even icier as she slammed the desk
hard.
ફ
“Sure. Why not? Come with me, Ms. Lloyd, for a site visit at the
sets. Let’s see how things work together.” She looked at Colette
before glancing at the crowd.
Within a week, she got rid of four dramas, keeping the modern
romance only because its performance was acceptable.
Let alone employees of Regent Entertainment, even outsiders
knew the company’s new CEO was ruthless and decisive, and
Colette now had no say at all.
Standing in the hall of a business gathering, Felton listened
solemnly with a glass in his hand while Arnoldo briefed him on
the recent moves of Regent Entertainment’s new CEO.
Tonight’s party was held for Regent Entertainment’s CEO’s
official debut, and he came here to discuss collaboration, hoping
they could reach a deal as soon as possible.
“I see. What about Anastasia?”
Arnoldo pursed his lips and glanced at his expression.
Then Arnoldo said, “Mr. Carney seems to have dumped her.
Maybe the shared surname really was just a coincidence after
all. She’s been pleasing Ms. Lloyd these days, including going on
business trips with Ms. Lloyd together and so on. Chances are,
she’s gonna join the showbiz and become a celebrity.”
“What?” Felton pulled a long face, gripping the glass more
tightly.
Just as he was in a foul mood, Raquel called out to him timidly, “Felty?”
When saying this, she carefully linked arms with him. He froze but didn’t withdraw his arm.
“Felty, I’ve been doing reflections at home these days, and I
ww
know I was wrong.” She looked at him through tears, her voice delicate and pitiful.
“Ms. Carney has been acting so outrageously after your divorce. I was worried she’d tarnish your reputation and make you the butt of the joke, so, on a whim, I… I’m so sorry, Felty. Since the police have been investigating me, I’ll turn myself in and do jail
time. The last thing I want is to drag you down.”
As she said this, she became worked up and coughed violently,
which made her even more pitiful.
Felton’s jawline wasn’t that tight anymore as he sighed and
wrapped his arm around her shoulders.
“Leave it with me. Just don’t do anything stupid again.”
As they were speaking, Anastasia walked over with Colette.
Today, Anastasia wore a white strapless gown, and with her
high ponytail, she looked pretty and graceful, attracting
everyone’s attention right away.
Before she could exchange pleasantries with anyone, she saw
Raquel and Felton walk toward her arm–in–arm.
Seeing the pair, Colette took her leave sensibly.
Anastasia rolled her eyes, thinking, “Once again, they disgust
me.”
Raquel reached out, trying to hold her arm. “I’m sorry, Ms.
Carney. I acted recklessly and almost hurt you.”
But Anastasia slapped her hand right away.

Raquel’s eyes brimmed with tears as she looked at Felton for
help.
He stood in front of her and looked at Anastasia coldly.
He said impatiently, “I admit Raquel did make a mistake. But
isn’t she apologizing to you right now? Can’t you just cut her
some slack?”
