Chapter 9 The New CEO
Anastasia had wanted to spend a few minutes getting a general picture of Regent Entertainment, yet it ended up taking her a couple of hours.
Honestly, she found Regent Entertainment a tumor of the Carney family. It was mired in scandals such as the former CEO getting arrested for prostitution and embezzling funds, executives coercing artists into beds, pervasive nepotism, and so on.
With everyone pointing fingers at them, it was a miracle that the company hadn’t gone bankrupt.
She now knew why Hobert wanted her to take charge—she was expected to clean up the mess.
Currently, Colette Lloyd, the director of Regent Entertainment, was the one managing all the affairs.
She pushed open the door and entered.
Immediately, the pungent smell of smoke and alcohol nearly suffocated her.
Suppressing her fury, she walked toward the front desk. “I’d like to see Ms. Lloyd.”
The receptionist was retouching her lipstick in a mirror. After quite a while, she responded without looking at Anastasia, “Do you have an appointment? If not, get out.”
“Is this how you treat visitors?”
Anastasia’s expression turned slightly cold, her eyes burning with rage.
She had assumed the receptionist would hold back a little. However, the receptionist gave her a once-over before saying with contempt, “Don’t you have a mirror? Gosh, are those tacky street goods you’re wearing? Not everyone gets to meet Ms. Lloyd.
“Be smart and get out. Or I’ll ask the security guards to drag you out.
“Just my luck. The first day on board, I have to deal with some ignorant, cheeky woman…”
Anastasia decisively cut her off.
“Shut up!
“Call her. Tell her the new CEO of Regent Entertainment is here.”
The receptionist was about to shoot back when she met Anastasia’s icy gaze. She glared at Anastasia, swallowed her words back, and made a call extremely reluctantly.
After the call was connected, she recounted what had happened in exaggeration. In the next second, her expression froze, and she gawked at Anastasia with great disbelief.
Understanding something, Anastasia said coldly, “Am I qualified to meet Ms. Lloyd now?”
“Y-Yes… O-Of course… This way…” terrified, the receptionist stuttered.
Bowing, she led Anastasia to the elevator exclusively to the CEO.
Watching Anastasia’s back, she wiped away the cold sweat on her forehead.
She had a bad feeling—she might soon kiss her job goodbye.
Anastasia went to the director’s office on the top floor.
She knocked on the door politely, but there was no response.
Arching an eyebrow, she pushed the door open with a bit of force.
Colette sat at the meeting table along with several men older than her, presumably the shareholders. Upon seeing Anastasia, they all fell silent.
Colette looked over at Anastasia, snapping sternly, “Can’t you see we’re in a meeting? Get out.”
Anastasia smiled, thinking, “She’s quite tough.”
She looked around, and her gaze finally fell upon Colette sitting in the main seat. Curving her lips, she asked, “This is a meeting? Alright then. Now that the real boss is here, shouldn’t you—the director—step aside?”
The entire room fell silent.
Everyone looked at her, frowning.
Then they started to exchange glances, thinking the same thing, “This is the new CEO? Has she ever graduated yet?
“Who in the headquarters made such a stupid decision?
“Are they trying to ruin Regent Entertainment?”
Colette clutched the pen tightly, looking torn. She said to Anastasia, “We’re in the middle of a very important meeting. Since you’ve just got here, maybe you shouldn’t…”
“Ms. Lloyd is right. You’re totally unfamiliar with things going on here, so feel free to take a walk outside or something.”
“That’s right…”
Everyone echoed.
