Chapter 8 Had a Clue
Anastasia sneered, watching Raquel make a fool of herself.
“This is karma,” Anastasia said under her breath.
The drama was over. Other guests started to scatter.
Anastasia had already lost interest. Hobert picked up on it right away and looked down at her. “This gala is dull. Let’s head home.”
She gave a small nod.
He just took her hand and led her straight out of the hotel.
Right after they left, a sleek Rolls-Royce eased out from the shadows.
The window slid down, revealing Felton.
His eyes lingered in the direction Anastasia had gone, something dark flickering in them.
“Should we follow them, Mr. Gutierrez?” Arnoldo asked.
Felton didn’t answer right away. He lit a cigar, took a slow drag, then paused as something crossed his mind. He pulled it from his lips and held it between his fingers.
As the glow dimmed, he finally said, “No. Just head home.”
“Alright. What about Ms. Fletcher?”
Arnoldo glanced at the rearview mirror, still trying to read Felton’s mood.
“Let her stay at the hotel. Put a few people on her, careful and clean ones.”
“Got it,” Arnoldo replied with a nod.
The car started moving toward the Gutierrez’s villa.
Felton arrived and pushed open the door. It was dark, quiet, and cold inside.
He felt mixed emotions.
The divorce was done. Soon, he and Raquel would be married. But somehow, his mind kept going over every look, every move Anastasia made.
He rubbed his forehead and reached for the light switch.
Just then, his phone rang. It was Arnoldo.
“Mr. Gutierrez, we can’t track Ms. Carney’s address.
“Our guys tried hacking her phone, but something blocked them.”
Felton frowned, feeling unsure.
He suspected someone was helping Anastasia. One name came to mind—Hobert, CEO of Falcon Group.
Then he realized Hobert and Anastasia shared the same last name.
Felton thought for a moment and said, “Keep digging on Anastasia and any men around her, especially Hobert. Do whatever it takes. I want answers.”
Meanwhile, at the Carney’s villa.
Anastasia had showered but couldn’t sleep.
She tossed and turned, then finally got out of bed.
Hobert’s words echoed in her mind. Tomorrow, she would step into her new role at Regent Entertainment. As the company’s new CEO, she had a lot to catch up on.
So she opened her laptop, logged into her family’s system, and started reading Regent Entertainment’s records.
Anastasia got so focused that she worked all night.
By morning, Hobert was shocked to see the dark circles under her eyes.
“You didn’t sleep at all?” he asked, looking amused.
He had never seen her this exhausted.
Anastasia shot him a glare. If she had known more about this company, she wouldn’t have said yes, no matter how hard Hobert had begged.
Now she could only clench her jaw and go to work.
Hobert drove her to Regent Entertainment and stopped at the entrance. Then he took off his sunglasses and slipped them onto her face.
“Put these on, or they’ll laugh at those dark circles.
“I’m not going in with you. Something’s up at my company, and I gotta deal with it. And I’ll come pick you up after work,” he said.
She nodded and stepped out, slamming the door to make it clear she wasn’t happy.
Hobert watched her go, shook his head with a smile, then drove off.
Regent Entertainment focused on developing talent for success in showbiz.
