Chapter 5 Generous Offer
“It’s fine,” Felton said, cool and unbothered.
He then waved over a waiter to clean up the mess.
Anastasia noticed Raquel staring and smirked. She had thought years abroad would have made Raquel wiser. But clearly, Raquel was still as childish and clueless as ever.
The mess was cleaned up, and the gala carried on. Conversations picked up where they left off. Anastasia linked arms with Hobert and walked toward the dessert table. As she passed Felton and Raquel, she didn’t even look at them, like they weren’t there.
Felton watched her, expecting an explanation. But she wasn’t going to give him one. His temple pulsed with frustration.
Raquel felt his shift in mood, and she wasn’t happy. She shot Anastasia a glare, full of spite.
The gala went on as planned. Some businessmen recognized Hobert and came over, eager to talk shop.
The conversation quickly bored Anastasia. She leaned in, whispered to Hobert, then slipped away to a quiet corner for a drink.
Raquel had been watching. Seeing Anastasia alone, she decided to make her move. After some small talk and fake laughs with those ladies, she headed over.
Anastasia saw her but didn’t react. She wanted to see what Raquel was up to.
“Ms. Carney. Long time no see.”
Raquel gave Anastasia a once-over, her eyes flickering with something close to admiration. Even she couldn’t deny that Anastasia was stunning.
“Do you want something?” Anastasia’s tone was flat, clearly uninterested.
“Not really.
“Just… just thought we should clear the air about Felty. You know he loves me. Now that I’m back, he’s gonna marry me. I just hope you’re not planning to get in the way again, like you did three years ago,” Raquel said.
Anastasia let out a laugh. Honestly, Raquel was hopeless.
“You and Felton could strip naked in bed for all I care. Instead of wasting your breath here, maybe focus on keeping his heart. Because ever since I showed up, he’s looked at me more times than he has at you,” Anastasia shot back.
She whipped her head around and saw Felton staring at Anastasia.
Her blood boiled.
She took out a Centurion Card from her bag and tossed it onto the floor. Whatever fake sweetness she had before was gone.
“There’s 160 thousand dollars in that account. Take it and get the hell out of Quelston. Stay away from Felty,” she hissed.
Anastasia clicked her tongue, clearly annoyed. She bent down, picked up the card, and gave it a long look.
Before Raquel could say anything snide, Anastasia snapped the card in half.
Raquel froze as the pieces hit the floor. Then Anastasia stepped on them twice.
Raquel’s face went pale. It felt like Anastasia hadn’t just stepped on the card but on her pride.
She held back her anger, but her voice was sharp. “Why did you do that, Anastasia?
“160 thousand dollars. That’s already generous. Don’t push it.”
