Cassius’s forehead began to sweat

Wesley forced himself to stay calm and said, “There’s an explanation for this.”
But no matter what they said, they were clearly at fault. Even so, offending the Lennox now would be a disaster. The fact that the Lark Group’s latest product still relied on working with the Lennox made Wesley feel like everything was crumbling
Of all people, why did it have to be Hubert?
He caught a glimpse of Azalea standing behind Hubert and clenched his jaw. Why on earth did she have to pick Hubert of all people?
Azalea didn’t notice Wesley’s bitter glance. Her eyes were fixed on the man standing in front of her, standing up for her. She felt overjoyed
Now she finally understood why Sydney always dragged the family into her messes–having someone fight for you felt
incredible.
Watching Cassius and Wesley–who had been so cocky just minutes ago–suddenly act all meek in front of Hubert made Azalea feel beyond satisfied.
She couldn’t help but imagine how great it would be to become someone powerful like Hubert, someone the Larks would never dare to push around.
She didn’t catch Wesley’s expression, but Hubert sure did.
He hadn’t walked away yet.
With a cold smile, he asked, “Did you give my girl a chance to explain earlier? You call it a misunderstanding and expect me to just go along with it?”
Azalea blinked in confusion. Since when did she become Hubert’s girl?
Cassius was furious, but he held back. Since when did Azalea become part of the Lennox?
Hubert might look polished and polite on the surface, but anyone who knew him well understood that was just a front. In truth, “cocky” fit him a lot better.
He started undoing his cufflinks. The silk shirt he wore made him look classy, but when he rolled up his sleeves, it was like watching someone peel off a perfect mask.
The way he looked up–sharp and full of defiance–sent a message.
Azalea calmly stepped back a bit–that had to be Hubert’s true self, right?
If Hubert knew she was quietly guarding herself against him, he’d probably be both amused and annoyed.
Cassius stiffened up, suspecting that Hubert might actually throw a punch.
He was right—if it weren’t for their relationship with Azalea, Hubert definitely would’ve wanted to fight. He looked at the girl he’d taken care of for years, who had been doing fine before but ended up in a horrible state after being with them. She was just starting to get better, and now they had the nerve to show up?
To Hubert, it felt like he’d raised a healthy, happy little pet with care, only for someone else to mistreat it until it was all skin and bones, dump it on the street, and then after he’d just picked it back up and barely started nursing it back to health, the same abuser showed up, acting like they had the right to take it back.
Holding back his rage, Hubert handed Cassius the chat logs Hex had sent him earlier.
“Next time, think before you act. Don’t just go along with what outsiders tell you. I’ve got to admit, you did a great job bui ding your business.”

The word “outsider” carried a double meaning–Hubert was clearly throwing shade at the two of them for trusting complete strangers over their own sister and daughter.
Wesley’s face burned with shame. Having someone else bring up your family drama like that was unbearable.
Everyone there understood the message loud and clear. After scanning through the messages, Cassius’s face darkened. Unlike the rest of his family, he didn’t blindly believe in Sydney’s innocence. His years in business had taught him to spot lies.
He hadn’t cared much before. But now?
Wesley took the chat log next. Hubert explained, “I had someone track that kid down. My people didn’t hurt him. Just asked some questions. When he refused to answer, they knocked him out and checked his phone. The messages had been deleted, but we got them back.”
The Lark brothers believed him. Hubert wouldn’t waste time lying about something like this.
Even though he was shocked, Wesley still tried to cover for Sydney. “It can’t be her. She was just venting. William probably acted on his own. Sydney must’ve been tricked!”
Hubert cut him off. “I don’t care who did what. Now that everything’s clear, isn’t it fair to ask Mr. Wesley to say sorry for how he treated my Lea?”
Wesley wanted to argue–what kind of dad apologizes to his own daughter? But when he saw the icy look Hubert gave him, he stopped.
Azalea spoke up with disgust written all over her face. “Forget it. His apology makes me sick.”
That hit Wesley hard. His daughter said something like that stung more than anything.
Cassius stayed quiet. He didn’t want to keep fighting. All he wanted now was to take Azalea home. “I’m sorry for what happened, Mr. Lennox. But Azalea is still my sister. You’ll let her come back with me, right?”
“Sure,” Hubert said calmly.
He stepped to the side, eyes still on Azalea. “But that’s not up to me–or you. It’s her choice. If she wants to leave, I won’t stop her. But if she doesn’t, even if you bring a whole army, you’re not taking her.”
