Chapter 1
My body was covered with “bitch” and “toilet” graffiti as thirty people assaulted me until I miscarried.
I thought Jack wouldn’t care.
After all, publicly he never minded my twenty–year exile, marrying me and doting on me like I was his life.
But secretly, he’d already married the fake heiress who stole my identity abroad, even having a child with her.
Seven years ago, to win my favor, my parents sent the most coveted man among Capital Elite Socialites to my bed.
After one night exploring ninety–nine positions, I was utterly consumed.
Two months later, during our high–society union ceremony,
the fake heiress pushed a five–year–old boy forward: “Go call him Daddy.”
My husband sneered: “She abandoned me seven years ago. How dare she bring her illegitimate child back now.”
My parents‘ stares turned glacial: “If not for her, our real daughter wouldn’t have suffered twenty years.”
I believed them.
Waking thirsty at midnight, I groped downstairs in the dark.
But I overheard my parents excitedly teaching a little boy to say “Grandpa
and Grandma.”
Stephanie sobbed, tears streaming: “If Vito didn’t need a father, I’d never have come back to trouble you…”
My husband didn’t hesitate for a second: “The child is innocent. I’ll give him a proper family.”
“What if Katherine makes a scene?”
“She’s crazy about me. Now she’s pregnant too–with so much tying her down, why would she?”
I looked down at my gently rounded belly and laughed, bitter tears welling.
Jack, you underestimate me.
Nothing can hold me back.
Just after scheduling the abortion, a message flashed:
[Katherine, marry me or I’ll kill myself]
After a moment’s thought, I printed the divorce papers first.
Jack Martinez happened to text:
[You must be tired from yesterday. Sleep in. Mom, Dad and I are out buying maternity essentials for you. Don’t worry about anything.]
I teared up reading it, not instantly replying like I used to.

The next swipe inevitably landed on trending news.

Stephanie Roberts beamed with happiness, arms linked with her parents.
While swiping his card at checkout, Jack still managed to throw her a lingering glance.
So I smiled.
Even after Stephanie’s seven–year absence, the beloved princess people remembered from the Roberts family…
Still her.
Because though the Roberts gifted me elegant dresses and precious jewelry…
They wouldn’t accompany me outside.
Mother’s eyes reddened as she said, “Those places… they just bring back memories of Stephanie…”
And I stopped insisting.
Dull thuds suddenly sounded outside the door, mingled with faint cries of pain.
My heart sank as I scrambled off the bed and flung the door open.
There stood the little boy, swinging something overhead before smashing it against the floor–blood splattered across the tiles.
When I finally recognized what it was, my heart nearly stopped.

It was the kitten I’d driven through the night to bring home seven years ago, back when I first came to the Roberts family and couldn’t sleep.
“Bad cat! Won’t play with me!”
I lunged forward onto my knees, desperately thrusting my hand beneath Sini just as the boy brought his weapon down again.
A searing pain shot through my lower belly.
The boy suddenly flung himself backward, sending Ballball’s tiny body tumbling off the second floor with a final piercing yowl.
“Vito!”
The front door burst open as a woman’s shrill scream echoed through the hall, followed by a stampede of footsteps.
A considerable force shoved me aside.
Cold sweat instantly dripped down, the pain leaving me speechless.
Everyone crowded around the wailing little boy, checking him over carefully.
Until a slap smacked my face.
“Bad woman! How dare you try to replace my mother!”
The sting on my face and his words froze me in place.
Donna and Ronald and Jack turned pale.
“Sis! Don’t blame Vito, I forced him to make you his mother, he’s bound to resent it… If you don’t agree, I’ll go back to the Ramirez family right
