Chapter 21
Days slipped by, and Emily’s class faced the National University Entrance Exam again.
This time, she went with Keith to Cathedral for the first blessing offering.
On New Year’s Day, they arrived early when Cathedral stood nearly
empty.
Emily asked Keith, “Remember how I looked when we first met?”
Keith gazed at her, thinking back carefully.
“Your hair was longer then, and you was thinner too. Kneeling there, you looked like a celestial maiden before the saint. I thought to myself, what fate–if I ever got the chance, I had to know her.”
Emily shot him a glare.
“So you’re saying I’m fat and ugly now?”
Keith waved his hands frantically.
“That’s not what I meant!”
“You must’ve been miserable back then. Oh dear, it broke my heart! I thought, if I could really meet you, I’d make sure you gained ten pounds- plump and healthy, beautifully so.”
Making attraction by looks sound so noble. Emily clamped her hand over Keith’s mouth.

“I won’t have you spouting nonsense before the saint!”

Keith squealed and squirmed, his aloof heartthrob image from their first meeting utterly gone. Emily couldn’t help but laugh.
In the past, she was used to Harold being gentle to others but cold to her.
Now, Keith was gentle, funny, silly, childish, mature, and steady with her, but with others he was distant and politely reserved.
Emily thought, this is what love looks like.
In front of the one you love, you can be your whole self, no matter what
that looks like.
Emily and Keith knelt together in the Cathedral, reverently holding the incense high above their heads.
This time, besides making a wish for her students, she also made a wish for herself and Keith.
“May Keith and I be together for a long time, and always treat each other sincerely.”
After returning, Emily and Keith’s parents arranged to meet for a meal.
The two families sat together in warm and convivial harmony, discussing wedding dates, venues, and guest lists. The ceremony was set for three days after the National University Entrance Exam.
Emily adopted an almost entirely hands–off approach, waiting for Keith to arrange everything before giving her approval. Of course, selecting the wedding gown required her personal involvement.
Keith vowed to find Emily the best, most expensive, most beautiful gown, determined to make it unforgettable for her.

Emily knew he simply wanted to outshine her first wedding.

He could be quite childish, constantly measuring himself against her ex- husband in subtle ways. But truthfully, had he not brought it up, she’d long since forgotten about Harold.
Those six years of hardship now seemed fleeting as passing clouds, hardly worth mentioning in the grand flow of her life.
Emily believed she was always the good one, not Harold. So, she felt no guilt, in that marriage, she was fair to herself and others.
On the day of the National University Entrance Exam, Emily wore a bright red traditional formal dress to wish the students success.
Watching the students walk in one by one full of confidence, and walk out one by one assured, she was extremely pleased.
Three days after the National University Entrance Exam, at the Mandarin Oriental Hotel. Emily and Keith’s wedding took place as scheduled.
Although they didn’t go to a church, Keith still invited an old priest with a strong sense of ceremony.
In front of everyone, the old priest looked at Emily and Keith in their wedding attire.
“Mr. Keith, do you take this woman to be your lawfully wedded wife, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?”
Keith gazed at Emily, answering firmly.
“I do.”

The priest then turned to Emily.
“Emily, do you take this man to be your lawfully wedded husband, to have and to hold, from this day forward, for better or worse, for richer or poorer, in sickness and in health, to love and to cherish, till death do you part?”
Emily replied without hesitation.
“I do.”
Then petals rained down amidst cheers and blessings.
Keith lifted Emily’s veil and kissed her with solemn tenderness.
At this moment, the long–awaited happiness finally settled in Keith and Emily’s palms.
From then on, those who gave their true hearts lived happily ever after.
