Chapter 7
He had been so busy fooling around with Rylee lately that he had not even cared where I went. He figured he would teach me a lesson by ignoring me for a while.
If the butler had not mentioned I had left, he probably would not have realized anything at all.
The butler kept his head down. “Sir, all her stuff is gone. Not even a strand of hair was left behind…
The world spun around Kevin. He pulled out his phone and dialed Aubree’s number, but all he got was the cold robotic voice.
“The number you dialed has blocked you…..”
He grabbed his assistant by the collar, rage in his eyes. “Find her! Figure out where she is! When did she disappear?”
The assistant’s hands were shaking as he handed over a tablet. “No one has seen Madam since the day of the fire.”
Kevin felt like he had been struck by lightning.
On the tablet, the surveillance showed clearly that Aubree never made it out of the burning set that day.
He staggered back, muttering, “No way… She’s always been so tough…”
The assistant looked like he wanted to speak but held back. After that, he could not hold it in anymore. “Mr. Molloy, after Madam dragged you out of that fire, she’s had lasting trauma…”

Those words hit him like a bucket of ice water.
Three years ago, he had just been a nobody, an extra no one cared about.
There had been a fire scene where the lead actor left early, but he had been left tied to the iron frame and forgotten.
When the fire got out of hand, it was Aubree–that delicate–looking girl who came to visit the set–who grabbed a fire extinguisher and ran
straight into the flames go to th
He could almost feel that scorching heat again.
He could still see the burns on Aubree’s arms when she untied him, smell
his own scorched hair as she carried him out, and remember how she stayed at the hospital for three days until he was finally safe.
“Mr. Molloy? Mr. Molloy?”
His assistant’s voice snapped him out of it.
Only then did Kevin notice his own hands were shaking, and cold sweat was running down his back.
“Keep looking…”
His voice was trembling with a fear he did not even realize was there.
“Why did you run in there? Weren’t you scared?” he had asked her back
then.
Aubree had turned her head, eyes bright like stars. “Because you’re my boyfriend.”
At that moment, Kevin had sworn he would make her the happiest person in the world.

However, now that he had reached the top, she was gone.

Outside the window, rain poured down. Aubree had always been scared of thunder. Was she scared now?
Kevin curled up on the bay window seat where Aubree used to sit all the time. The faint scent of her favorite hand cream still lingered there.
He picked up the calendar on the windowsill. Every important date about him was circled, with little suns drawn beside them.
The last one was the day of the press conference.
His vision blurred. He could not stop his eyes from turning red.
Meanwhile, things online were blowing up even more.
The behind–the–scenes video of Aubree being forced to act as a stand–in and jump again and again leaked out.
“Bullying on Set” became the new trending topic overnight.
That drama–which had not even finished filming–was already getting boycotted by viewers everywhere.
The clip stayed viral for days.
In it, Aubree, strapped to wires, kept dropping from a three–meter–high platform over and over. Blood soaked through her costume at the shoulder.
Her face was twisted in pain. It was pain that he had not even noticed at the time.
Meanwhile, the camera caught Kevin sitting in front of the monitor, feeding grapes to Rylee,

Kevin never had the guts to press play on that video himself.

Rylee hid in a hotel room, too scared to show her face. Her agent had just slammed the door on her, leaving behind a stack of contract termination
papers.
And the penalty fees on those were enough to buy a fancy house.
Her phone lit up with a new notification, and it was a 60–second voice message from the director.
