Chapter 9
As the words slipped from her lips, a sudden realization hit her.
Tears streamed down Jessica’s cheeks as she pleaded, “Mr. Sullivan, I just wanted him to stop bothering me! The baby is yours, I promise it’s yours.
Eric loosened his grip and instructed his assistant, “Take her for an abortion. Remember, she’s allergic to anesthesia—no pain relief.”
Jessica gazed at him in despair, her voice filled with desperation.
“Mr. Sullivan, I had boyfriends before you, but I didn’t mean to hide it! You said you were tired of Maddie’s allure and wanted someone more reserved. I concealed my past relationships to suit your preferences!”
Eric glared down at her disdainfully.
“Stop talking. You disgust me.”
He barked at his assistant, “Why aren’t you taking her for an abortion already?”
A group of bodyguards harshly pulled Jessica away, pushing her with aggression.
She screamed frantically, “So what if I’ve been with two men?
“You were with Maddie, but couldn’t stop fixating on me! If anyone’s guilty, it’s you! You have no right to judge me!”
Eric’s expression turned menacing as he kicked Jessica in the stomach, causing her to cry out in pain.

A man hurried forward, wrapping his arms protectively around Jessica, and glared at Eric with gritted teeth.
“This is attempted murder! I’ll make sure you’re sued into bankruptcy!”
Eric dismissively waved his hand, and the bodyguards promptly tossed Jessica and the man out of the banquet hall.
Eric approached with a forced, flattering grin.
“Maddie, you witnessed it. I’m done with her. I don’t want the baby either. You’re the only one I want. You’re all I need.”
I shot him a scornful look.
“Are you not listening? Let me repeat, Eric. Even if every man on earth vanished, I’d never want you.”
His lips quivered, and tears filled his eyes.
“Maddie, please don’t do this. I love you. Without you, I can’t even muster the strength to breathe.”
Suddenly, as if reminded of something, he seized my wrist.
“Maddie, think about Grandma. Her last wish was for us to get married.”
Thinking about Grandma sent a sharp pain through my chest, and without a second thought, I slapped Eric.
“Eric, you have no right to talk about my grandma! Do you really think I’m unaware of how she died?”
Guilt flickered in Eric’s eyes, but he persisted.
“I know you’re mourning, but she died from acute rejection after the transplant. The doctor said it was unforeseen. I promised grandma I’d look

after you for the rest of my life…”
I glared at him, my gaze as venomous as a snake, causing him to swallow his unfinished words.
“Eric, aren’t you haunted by nightmares at night?
“Grandma loved you deeply. She even provided you with the startup funds. Yet, you replaced her fresh liver with a frozen one so Jessica’s cat could get a transplant. That’s what killed her!
J’After she passed, you let the cat desecrate her ashes! How dare you keep bringing her up now?‘
Eric gaped at me, completely taken aback and unable to move for quite a while.
