Chapter 7
Serafina was sent to the psych ward.
Even then, she was restless.
At one point, she even tried to kill herself.
Mom had cried so much her eyes were swollen. She held onto Serafina and said, “Sera, don’t be like this. You’re still young, you have so many chances ahead of you.”
Honestly, in just a few months, Serafina had turned pale and skinny like a walking skeleton. Her hair looked dry and yellow like old straw.
And let’s be real–she still had ten years of prison ahead of her.
What “chances” were even left?
Serafina was leaning against the window when she saw me walk in with some fruit. The moment she saw me, she tried to rush over.
However, her arms were strapped down, so she could not get to me.
“This is all your fault!” she shouted. “You stole everything from me and ruined my life! Give Enzo back! He must still love me!”
I calmly placed the fruit on the table and gave her a fake–sweet smile. “Sera, you need to focus on your health. Now’s not the time to worry about guys.”
I mean, if she is going to be stuck in jail for the next ten years, wouldn’t it be smart to stay healthy?

Lately, I have been learning to let go of the past and act super caring toward Serafina. And my parents? They noticed.
After all, I am still their daughter, even if they were always more biased toward her before.
Now, Serafina is heading to jail, so if anything ever happens to them, I am the only one left to rely on.
So their attitude toward me totally flipped.
Mom gave me a tired smile. “Alessia, if you’re busy with work, don’t feel like you have to keep coming to the hospital. We’re here.”
I nodded and pretended to act all thoughtful while stepping forward as if I were about to comfort Serafina.
“Mom, I know. But look at her. I’m really worried about her.
“I’ve been thinking that maybe this is all my fault. If she really loves Enzo that much, then I’m willing to step back and let her have him. As long as she gets better, I’m fine with it.
“Sera, please get well soon.”
Anyway, even if Enzo and I really did divorce, I would still get my fair share of what we built together.
Serafina just stared at me, totally stunned by my sweet little performance.
Her eyes were red and swollen like two puffed–up walnuts.
Even a light squeeze would probably make her cry again.
“Who wants your fake kindness?” Serafina snapped. “You’ve never

been prettier than me, your body’s never been better than mine, and your grades were always worse. Enzo only picked you because we are rich–he was tricked! Once you’re gone, he’ll finally see that I’m the one for him!”
As she yelled, she somehow broke free from the restraints and grabbed my wrists, shoving me toward the window.
Mom freaked out and rushed over to pull her back. “Sera, she’s your sister! No matter what you’ve done, I can forgive you, but you can’t kill her!”
I was not scared. Instead, I kept poking at her with my words.
“Yeah, you’re prettier than me, have a better figure, and are smarter too. But guess what? Enzo still likes me. What a shame, right?”
Her eyes went bloodshot, like she was ready to eat me alive.
“What did you do to him? Did you drug him?”
I held onto the curtain tightly to keep from falling.
“Sera, do you really love him? Or do you just love his money and power? You can’t stand the idea of me living a better life than you. Since we were kids, you’ve always had to be the best–afraid I’d take our parents‘ attention.”
I called her out on everything she hated hearing, and she totally lost it. She tried to push me harder, like she wanted me dead.
“I’m your sister! I’ve always been better than you. You don’t deserve to be happy while I suffer!”
I grabbed her arms, holding her back.

“But I’ve never competed with you. I always saw you as family. In my last life, I trusted you completely and even listened to you and followed your lead, but you tried to kill me.
“You kept up this act for years, and Mom and Dad always took your side. You already had everything, but I never hated you. I still treated you like my closest person.
“Yes, you’re brilliant, but now look at you. You let a guy ruin your whole life.”
Serafina just stared at me with shock in her eyes.
Right then, Dad and Enzo burst into the room and yanked her away from me.
Enzo wrapped his arms around me, holding me tight like he was scared I had gotten hurt.
Dad turned to Serafina and smacked her across the face. “She’s your sister! How could you do something like this? We don’t have a daughter like you.”
Mom rushed over to check if I was okay, her hands shaking as she looked for injuries.
I shook my head with a small smile. “I’m fine.”
However, before anyone could say anything else, Serafina climbed up onto the window ledge, turned around, and jumped.
The end.
