Chapter 8
Brody did not look completely satisfied.
“It’s safer to be thorough,” he muttered.
I frowned. “Brody, you promised me.”

He immediately lowered his head, pouting slightly. “Fine, no more talk of revenge. I’ll focus on bringing good luck for our little one.”
Still, the moment his eyes landed on Patrick and Sadie, his expression darkened again.
“But they can’t just get away with what they’ve done. They hurt you, and they need to face the consequences.”
With a quick signal, his men dragged Patrick and Sadie outside.
A few moments later, we could hear their protests and yelling, but I did not pay attention.
I was too busy comforting my child, who had just woken up.
He immediately smiled when he saw his dad and stretched out his hands for Brody to hold him.
Brody did not hesitate this time, even though he used to be disappointed that our child was not a girl.
He gently patted the little one’s back and said warmly, “Such a brave kid. You protected your mommy.”
The child giggled happily, and my heart melted at the sight.

I thought everything had finally settled down. Yet, unexpectedly, Patrick managed to make his way back from Africa.
He looked like a shell of who he used to be–limping, worn out, and hanging around the front of my company every day.
Then one afternoon, as I was heading to a coffee shop alone, he suddenly dropped to his knees in front of me and burst into tears.
“Tara, I was wrong,” he sobbed.
Sadie lied to me!
“That child wasn’t even mine. She had it with someone else!”
I raised an eyebrow. That was new information.
Patrick reached for my hand, but I pulled away.
I gave him a cold look. “Oh? Well, congrats on finding that out. A little late, don’t you think?”

He was speechless for a moment, then looked up at me hopefully. “Tara, I really messed up. Please, can you come back to me?
“Since my mother once saved your life, can you give me another chance?” Patrick pleaded.
“I swear, this time I won’t mess it up. I’ll be faithful. We’ll have a good, simple life together.”
He added, “And since you’re able to have children, maybe we could even
have another one?”
I stared at him like he had completely lost his mind.
“Have you ever considered,” I said calmly, “that maybe the issue isn’t me

but you?”
He was nothing like Brody. Back then, I agreed to marry Patrick because his mother saved my life, not because I loved him.
Would I really be foolish enough to walk back into that same mistake?
Besides, he was no longer the man he once was–physically or otherwise.
I lightly kicked him away to keep my distance.
However, I did not expect him to stumble back.
Turns out, all that training at the martial arts gym had paid off.
I had started learning martial arts after everything that happened, and clearly, it was working.
Brody showed up shortly after, hurrying over with concern. He gently grabbed my hand. “Are you okay?”
I smiled. “Yeah, it’s fine. Just someone I used to know.”
We laughed a little and walked into the café together, enjoying the calm of normal life again.
When Patrick tried to follow us in, the staff at the door blocked him politely.
“Sorry, Sir, we can’t let you inside.”
Patrick’s voice rose in protest. “Why? I used to be a VIP here!”
The staff maintained a professional smile, though his eyes were wary.
He turned around, brought Patrick a cup of Coke, and handed it to him at the door. “Here you go, Sir. But I’m afraid we still can’t let you in.”

Patrick snapped. He splashed the drink in the staff’s face and started a scuffle.
It did not last long. Moments later, the police arrived and took him into custody.
