The two of them kept blaming and yelling at each other.
Brody, clearly fed up, punched his assistant lightly in the chest out of frustration, then turned and walked away.
After that, he gave a calm but chilling order to the men behind him, “Since we didn’t find Tara here, burn the place down.”
Patrick completely lost it. “No! This is my family’s it!”

Brody glanced back at him with a cold, devilish smile. “You should’ve thought about the consequences before you laid a hand on my wife.”
Panic flashed across Patrick’s face. He had never felt this kind of fear
before.
He watched in shock as flames began to rise, threatening to swallow the house whole.
He did not dare stay a second longer and bolted outside.
For some reason, the only thing in his mind now was finding Tara.
As long as he could find her, he believed Brody might spare him.
However, what he did not know was that the person he was so desperate to find–me–was lying comfortably on a leather sofa, calmly listening to my team’s report.
“Boss,” one of them said, “we’ve already made contact with our people in Africa. The couple’s basic supplies have been completely cut off.

“They’re surviving on tree bark with their child right now.”
Nora Healy glanced at the wound on my face, clearly wanting to say something but hesitating.
I noticed and said quietly, “Just say what’s on your mind.”
“Boss, please don’t act alone like that again,” she said. “Next time, take us with you.
“If we had arrived even a little later, you and your son might’ve been attacked by those coyotes.”
I gently patted the sleeping child beside me, who was still clearly shaken. My voice was cold but calm. “We were unlucky this time. That won’t happen again.”
Nora finally relaxed and nodded in agreement.
She clenched her fists and said through gritted teeth, “I’ll make sure those people pay for what they did to you.”
I looked at her and smiled slightly. “Don’t get all worked up yet. I still need the Connery family.”
Just then, another assistant burst into the room, looking panicked. “Boss! Something’s wrong!
“We haven’t even made our move yet, and the Connery family is already gone!”
I frowned. That caught me off guard as I was hoping to take over them myself.
“Did you tell him what happened to me?” I asked.
They both shook their heads.

I was a bit puzzled.
I had not said anything to Brody yet, as I was worried it would distract him from his business in Europe.
Now, I was pretty sure he had found out.
I sighed and rubbed my temples. “Get in touch with him.”
Before I could finish, Brody walked in, his steps heavy and fast.

The moment he saw the bruises on me and the child, his eyes filled with fury.
Without saying a word, he had Patrick and Sadie dragged in like mongrels.
He stormed toward me, still burning with anger.
“Tara! Why didn’t you tell me any of this?”
I gently reached out and grabbed his hand, smiling playfully. “I didn’t want you to worry. I thought it might affect your work.”
Brody clenched his jaw furiously and turned toward Patrick. Then, he stomped down hard on Patrick’s already injured leg to vent his rage.
The pain jolted the unconscious Patrick awake.
He blinked in confusion, and the first thing he said was, “Tara, did you really marry someone else and have a child with him?”
I walked over slowly, looking down at him with no sympathy.
“Yep. Told you more than once, didn’t I?
“I said you’d regret this.”

Patrick’s face twisted in a mix of regret and fear. “Why are you doing this to me?” he shouted.
“It’s not like I didn’t love you. I just wanted a child to carry on my family name. Is that so wrong?”
Then suddenly, he started shaking uncontrollably. “If he’s not my son, what about the one I had with Sadie?”
I laughed quietly at the look on his face.
“He’s in Africa,” I said casually. “Living off tree bark.”
