Chapter 73
“Scott?” Beta Richard yelled his son’s name. “What are you doing
here?” He couldn’t believe his eyes, neither could he believe or
understand what was going on.
The rest of the council members exchange weird and strange
glances with each other. Some whispered some inaudible words,
while some other elders didn’t say much, but their expressions
said a whole lot. Even Alpha Marcus and Steve were completely
confused.
“What is going on right now?” Alpha Marcus finally said,
turning to Beta Richard, as he found his voice.
“I have no idea, Alpha. I’m so confused.” Beta Richard replied,
looking truly confused.
“Has he been bewitched too?” Someone asked quietly, and Beta
Richard stared intently at him.
“Where have you been?” Scott whispered, his voice trembling as tears flowed down his face. “I thought I’d lost you forever.”
Veronica’s eyes welled up, her voice barely audible. “Oh my, Scott… I thought I’d lost you too.” She wrapped her arms around him, holding him tight as tears rolled down her cheeks too.
Chapter 73
The guards, caught off guard by the emotional reunion, relaxed
their grip on Veronica’s arms. Their eyes darted between the
pair, unsure how to react.
As their reunion prolonged, Alpha Marcus‘ face darkened, his
anger brewing. Suddenly, he exploded, his voice thundering
through the room, sending shivers down their spines. “What is
the meaning of this ridiculous display?”
“Guards, have you all lost your minds?” He yelled at them.
The guards snapped back to attention, with their faces
weakened. Scott and Veronica’s heads jerked apart, their eyes
immediately locked onto Alpha Marcus, whose anger looked
like it was increasing with every passing second. The air in the
room seemed to vibrate with tension.
“I gave an immediate order! How dare you defy my orders?”
Alpha Marcus spat, his eyes blazing.
“We’re sorry, Alpha.” They immediately bowed to the ground,
apologizing.
“Take her away. Now!” He growled his order once again.
The guards hesitated for a short moment, glancing at each other
before tightening their grip on Veronica’s arms and they began
to drag her away slowly.
Chapter 73
Scott’s eyes widened in horror as they dragged her away, while
Steve tried to fight off the guards who were holding him back.
“No, Father! There is no evidence that shows that she is guilty
anyway. You can’t do this, please.” Steve struggled with the
guards and in just a few minutes, he overpowered them all, but
as he raced towards Veronica, a voice stopped him.
“STOP RIGHT HERE, STEVE!” It was Beta Richard’s voice, “have
you no regard for any of us seated here?” He asked him, his tone
laced with intense seriousness.
Hearing Beta Richard’s voice, Steve stopped right in his tracks.
He clenched his fists and bit his lip, trying not to show his
emotions at that moment. It hurt him so much that he couldn’t
do anything to defend and fight for Veronica. He had already
done enough before then and he knew he couldn’t go against
Beta Richard, especially after he had out so much trust in him.
As the guards were taking Veronica away, Scott’s eyes pleaded
with Alpha Marcus, his voice cracking. “Please, don’t let them
take her away. She’s innocent.”
Once again, the guards stopped.
Alpha Marcus‘ expression turned as cold as ice. “Innocent? You
know nothing, Scott. This stranger has been working hand in
hand with our enemies. She’s a dangerous spy.”
Chapter 73
Veronica’s eyes widened in horror. “That’s not true! Please, I
know nothing about it. I swear by the moon goddess.” She
protested as she kept struggling against the guards‘ grip, with
tears in her eyes.
Scott’s face turned pale. “No, Veronica would never do such a
thing. I trust her. She can not…”
Alpha Marcus‘ Voice cut through the room. “Enough, Scott! I
have passed my judgement.” He then turned to the guards again,
“What are you still waiting for? Take her away!”
The guards immediately began to drag Veronica away again,
her desperate cries echoing through the hall. Scott and Steve’s
eyes followed her, Scott’s heart shattering.
Scott, amidst sobs, then ran to his Beta Richard, “Dad, she is
innocent. She didn’t do whatever they said she did. I’m very
certain.”
Beta Richard gently grabbed Scott’s arm, “You need to behave
yourself right now, Scott, because you are already in trouble. I’m
still in shock as to why you came here on your own, despite the
instructions that you must not go around all by yourself.”
“And as if that is not enough, you are here meddling in issues
that don’t concern you. Do not let me lose my temper. Once I’m
done here, we’re heading home and be sure that you’ll get
Chapter 73
punished for your actions.” Beta Richard said further, but even
though Scott felt sad, he wasn’t ready to back down.
He was ready to keep going for his dear friend. She had done a
lot for him already, now was the time to pay her back and he
was ready to do anything, without minding whether he ended
up getting punished or not.
“I’m sorry, dad.” Scott muttered to his dad, who was visibly
angry by his actions.
“But I still insist that she is innocent. I’m If you’ll just
very s
be patient and listen, please.” Scott continued.
“Okay, that’s enough. I’ve had enough of your nonsense, you’re
going home right away. I’m calling your mother.” Beta Richard
immediately got up, and excused himself as he pulled Scott, who
kept struggling to get out of his father’s firm grip, along with
him.
“No, dad. I’m not leaving. She is innocent.” Scott insisted, as he
was being dragged away.
“Keep your mouth shut before I shut it for you.” His father
scolded him and he began to cry.
“She saved my life, dad. SHE SAVED MY LIFE!” He screamed and
his father stopped abruptly, while everyone in the room looked
Chapter 73
at each other, whispering, with their brows furrowed in
confusion.
Beta Richard crouched in front of Scott, “What do you mean by
that? Have you met before?” He asked the crying boy, while
others listened attentively
“Yes, dad. She was the one who saved my life. Remember when I
got lost in the forest and fell into the pit and I almost died?” Scott
asked his father to make him recall the past event.
“Yes, I remember very well.” Beta Richard answered quickly,
wiping his son’s tears.
“She was the one.” He stated, and Beta Richard was taken aback.
“Wait a minute. You mean, she is the girl you have always been
talking about?” Beta Richard asked again, pointing at Veronica,
who was still with the guards.
“Yes, dad.” Scott answered, sniffling.
“That Vee, or what do you call her?” He asked further as if
trying to be sure if he was right.
“Yes, dad! That’s Vee!” He exclaimed, his voice rising in
frustration and mixed emotions.
“I hope you’re not trying to play silly pranks here because if I get
Chapter 73
to know that you’re just being silly, I assure you that you’ll be
severely dealt with.” Beta Richard threatened him, but he was
surprised to see that Scott was so sure.
He decided to ask him one more time, “Are you sure about this,
Scott? Are you certain that you are not mistaking her for
someone else?”
“Yes, I’m a hundred percent sure, dad.” Scott replied confidently,
“I thought I had lost her forever, I was shocked when I saw her
here.” He added.
Beta Richard and Alpha Scott exchanged glances and their eyes
fell on Veronica who was still crying profusely.
Beta Richard then asked her, “Do you know my son?”
“Yes, I do.” She answered, nodding her head.
“How are we sure she’s not just lying so that she can be set free?”
A member of the council suddenly shouted. “She can be
deceiving us and cooking up lies, for all we care.”
“Can you prove that you’re not lying?” He questioned and she
thought for a moment before nodding her head.
“His name is Scott.” She began and they all scoffed.
“Isn’t that obvious?” They all mumurred, their faces filled with
Chapter 73
scorn.
“Exactly. Are you kidding us right now. Do you expect us to
believe that you knew his name before you got here? Really?”
An elder said and they all laughed, mockingly.
“Anyone who has been here in less than twenty minutes can
easily know that. You might have to try harder else no one will
believe you.” Beta Richard urged her.
“He told me he is ten years old.” She continued, “and that his
parents are both Betas in Fire Dawn pack.”
Hearing this, silence filled the room and they all adjusted in their
seats as they realized that it was beginning to look like Veronica
was telling the truth.
“He also told me that he had a sister but she unfortunately
passed away some years ago.” Veronica said on a final note and
by this time, every single one of them had a look of shock on
their faces.
