Chapter 72
As Steve rushed to Veronica, the eyes of everyone in the room
followed him with every step he took. And as he got to where she was on the floor, he grabbed and hugged her, further
shocking everyone.
“Are you okay? Did they hurt you? Were you beaten?” Steve asked, his eyes completely focused on her, paying no attention
to those who were seated. His tone filled with concern.
Veronica couldn’t answer, she just kept crying. A part of her was glad because Steve came to her rescue but another part of her was afraid of what was going to befall him now that they have found out that she has been staying in his house all the while.
He swiftly wiped her tears and spoke calmly to her, “I’m so sorry, Veronica. It’s all my fault.”
“Please don’t cry.” He pleaded, whispering into her ear as he held
her in his embrace.
At that moment, it was as if they were the only ones in the room because every other person was totally shocked, and
dumbfounded.
Unable to hold his anger in anymore, Alpha Marcus sprung to

his feet, “What the hell!” He yelled, unable to believe his eyes.
“Have you no regard for any of us here? How dare you arrive back in the pack and the first person you go to embrace is this
stranger who has possibly bewitched you! How dare you!”
Alpha Marcus thundered, his voice reechoing through the room.
Steve drew back, disengaging from his hug, his eyes snapping
towards his father as he yelled.
“You were sent on a mission and the first thing you do is to run
into the arms of a stranger? A traitor? An enemy of this pack?”
Alpha Marcus continued. “How dare you?!”
“What? A traitor? How?!” Steve was unable to believe or
understand what his father was going on about.
“What are you talking about?” He asked, with a look of
confusion.
“Are you actually asking me that question?” Alpha Marcus
snapped at Steve, angrily. “Are you trying to say that you do not
know that this girl is a spy? That she is a tool in the hands of our
enemies.”
“How could you have allowed yourself to be bewitched by her?”
He said again, glaring at Steve, who was still staring at every single one of them in confusion.
Steve scoffed and frowned, “Bewitched me? Is that really a
thing?” He said, nonchalantly, and they all exchanged glances in
disbelief.
“Steve!” Beta Richard yelled at him, trying to call him to order.
“Can you just imagine? Just look at the way he is talking, it is
obvious that this girl has done something to him.” A member of
the council said, giving Veronica deadly stares as he spoke, while
the others nodded in support.
“That’s true.” They all muttered and Steve shook his head.
“How could you, Steve? How could you disrespect me like this?
How could you do this?” Alpha Marcus kept asking, his tone
laced with disappointment.
“All this while, we had been searching for the spy, for the traitor
who had been giving information to our pack’s enemies, not
knowing that you had been the one housing her. I’m highly
disappointed in you.” He continued.
Finally getting a little idea of what was going on, Steve furrowed
his brows.
“I think you all are mistaken. She didn’t do anything.” Steve said,
in Veronica’s defense.
“Just look at him already trying to defend her.” Another council

member spoke, his face twisted in displeasure.
“I promise you, that’s not the case. She is innocent of whatever allegations you are trying to level against her.” He said, firmly.
“So, are you saying we are lying? That we all are fools?” The
council member said, trying to spin things around.
“Of course not. That is not what I’m saying. All I’m saying is that
she is innocent.” Steve said again.
“And you know that because? Do you even know who she really
is?” He asked Steve and the room became quiet as they all waited
patiently for his response.
“I know this because she is my guest. She doesn’t even live here. I
found her in the forest and brought her here because she had
nowhere else to go.” Steve revealed, and as if it just dawned on
them that she didn’t belong there from the onset, they all
mumurred in surprise.
They knew Veronica was a stranger in the pack but they really
hoped that Steve had nothing to do with her. So, Steve revealing
it to them that Veronica was his guest, solidified the claims that
he was hiding a spy in his house.

Hearing Steve’s revelation, his father, who had already taken his
seat, sprung to his feet in anger, once again.

“How dare you? How dare you bring a stranger into the pack when you know the rules and regulations?” He shouted angrily.
“I’m sorry. I was going to tell you, but a lot happened and I couldn’t tell you yet. I really wanted to-” Steve tried to explain,
but his father was too furious.
“SILENCE!” He yelled, shutting Steve up, “You have no right to speak!”
He began to pace, his eyes blazing with fury as it began to change colour.
“You as the Alpha’s son, should know better than to bring a
stranger into the pack, without your my approval. How dare
you?” Alpha Marcus barked and Steve couldn’t say anything.
“Did you think you could hide her forever and we wouldn’t find
her?” He added, and Steve couldn’t face his father.
Veronica, on the other hand, couldn’t believe her ears. It felt like
her ears were playing pranks on her.
“The Alpha’s son?” She thought to herself as her eyes gradually
turned towards Steve, who was now speechless because his
father had unknowingly exposed his secret.
“You’re the Alpha’s son?” Veronica asked, her voice breaking as
she spoke, while Steve just couldn’t speak.

“Yes, he is.” Beta Richard answered, his tone so cold.
“And thanks to you. He is definitely going to pay for what he has
done.” Alpha Marcus added, and Veronica’s heart broke.
She hated that Steve was going to get into much trouble all
because of her and her clumsiness.
Veronica turned back to Steve and muttered, “you never told
- me. I didn’t know.”
“I’m sorry.” He was finally able to mutter those two words with
sincerity in his eyes, but for some reason which she couldn’t
explain or understand, Veronica felt bad.
Coincidentally, Scott had left home and was heading to the Alpha’s palace without telling his mum because he knew she
was going to kick against the idea. Ever since he was found, she
had ensured that his unmonitored movements were restricted.
If he was going anywhere without her, he must have maids going with him for his safety. She had also relieved herself of
some pack duties so that she would have enough time to spend
with him.
Getting to the palace, he noticed the crowd outside, and was
surprised.
“What is going on?” He thought to himself as he found his way

amidst the crowd.
“Scott?” One of the guards who recognized him, called out to him. “Are you here alone? What are you doing here alone?” The guards asked, glancing around to see if anyone came with Scott.
“I’m here to see my dad.” Scott said to the guard who sighed
slightly.
“But he is in a very important meeting. It is quite serious.” The guards revealed, but Scott got more interested in the issue.
“Is that why there are lots of people out there?” Scott asked him,
and he nodded.
“What is going on? Scott asked him again and he looked around
before leaning towards Scott’s ear.
“I think Master Steve might be in trouble.” He whispered into
Scott’s ear.
“Why? What did he do?” Scott queried the guard, with a puzzled
look on his face.
“I don’t really know. I don’t have much information about it, but they are still in the Alpha’s court. The meeting seems intense.”
He answered Scott.
“I guess there is only one way to find out what is going on. I’ll go

in.” Scott said, and before the guard could say anything to stop
him, he was on his way to the Alpha’s court.
“This is my judgement.” Alpha Marcus‘ voice thundered.
“Guards?” He called out, and about six guards rushed and bowed
before him.
“Grab this stranger and throw her out for this pack immediately!
I do not want to see her or smell her scent anywhere near this
pack.!” He yelled, while the other members and Elders who were
seated, nodded in contentment.
“No, Father! You can’t do this.” Steve protested, while Veronica
cried her heart out as she knew what fate was about to befall
her at that moment.
“Who are you to tell me what to do and what not to do? You
should have thought better about it before doing what you did.
Be rest assured, you will definitely be punished!” Alpha Marcus
snapped at Steve with fury in his eyes.
“Guards, take her away immediately!” Alpha Marcus yelled and
the guards immediately grabbed Veronica, but Steve tried to get
her off their hands.
Another set of guards rushed in and held Steve back as the other
ones began to take Veronica away.
Chapter 72
Suddenly, they heard a young familiar voice, screaming at the
top of his voice, “Vee? VEE!!!”
A young figure then raced towards Veronica, hugging her
tightly.
Seeing what was going on, silence filled the air once again as
everyone stared in shock at what was happening.
