Chapter 65
“I’ll see you later. I can’t tell exactly when though, but I’ll see you some other time.” She said as she hurriedly grabbed her keys.
“I’m so sorry I’m rushing. I told my dad that I wasn’t going to stay too long and seeing his call now, I know I have stayed longer than I should have.” She explained why she was rushing.
Veronica nodded, “It’s fine. I understand.”
“You’ll be fine on your own right?” Megan asked her, as she
walked towards the door.
“Yes, I will. Stay safe.” Veronica answered her as she followed
her, but as soon as she got to a couple of steps before the door,
she stopped and waved at Megan from there.
Megan opened the door, stepped out and locked the door from
outside, leaving Veronica alone in the house once again.
“Phew!” Veronica sighed quietly as she made her way back into
the living room, clearing up the cup Steve had used earlier. She
then headed back into the room.
She laid on the bed, wondering what it felt like, having friends
once again. She really loved the friendship between Megan and
Chapter 65
Steve and couldn’t help but keep thinking about it.
“I just hope I can find someone that would be kind and true to
me.” She thought to herself as her eyes stared at the white
ceiling of the huge room.
Lost in thoughts, she absent–mindedly raised her left hand and
her gaze fell on the faint imprint where her missing bracelet
once rested. For over two years, the bracelet had never left her
wrist and wearing it for that long definitely left a slight
indentation on her skin. She last saw it after she was banished,
but after she escaped from the gray wolf, she couldn’t find it
anymore.
As she traced the outline of the imprint with her fingers,
memories flooded her mind. Her mind wandered off to Beck.
She remembered the day he gave it to her. She remembered the way his eyes lit up with joy as he fastened the bracelet around
her wrist and realized that it fit her perfectly.
“A symbol of my undying love for you, and an evidence that I will forever love you no matter what comes our way.” He had said on that day, his eyes full of love for her and his voice filled
with sincerity.
She scoffed, “I must have been a fool to have believed a liar and a
betrayer all those years. I’m sure he had a good laugh seeing how blindly I believed and loved him.” She said to herself as tears

began to well up in her eyes, pouring out in large quantities.
She remembered that very day and its events so clearly.
“Do you like it?” She remembered how he had asked her on that
day too, and she had nodded happily, thinking that his love for
her was real and nothing could stand against them.
“Yes, I love it. Thank you, Beck. I also promise to forever love
you.” She had promised him and they had sealed it up with a kiss
on that very day.
She remembered how she happily showed it to Kiera, her best
friend and how she was so happy for her.
“He really gave you this?” Kiera had asked her as soon as she
showed it to her, and she had nodded happily.
“Oh my goodness. It’s so beautiful. I’m so happy for you. You’re
so lucky. I hope I find someone who will love me the way Beck loves you, someday.” Kiera had said as she both hugged her dear ‘lucky‘ friend.
“Little did I know that I was just being fooled and used. And I
gullibly fell for it. I’ve been such a fool. I’m not only weak, but I’m
also a fool.” She scolded herself, wiping her tears as she spoke to
herself.
Beck was one of the best things that happened to her in her

previous pack. After finding out that they were fated mates, he didn’t complain, making her love and respect him so much. Even
when his family had refused to warm up to her, he had
remained headstrong, promising her that he was going to make
sure that they accepted her no matter what he would have to do
to make them accept her.
She had loved him with all her heart and she thought he felt the
same way because despite knowing that she wasn’t too strong,
he still promised to stay by her side and not leave her alone. She
never believed a day would come when people would treat her
with so much contempt and so much disdain and he would look
away without making an attempt to even fight for her.
She soon began to cry and as she cried, her heart hurt as she
thought about Beck’s betrayal.
“When he knew he didn’t want a weak mate, why did he waste
my time all those years? Feeding me with empty promises. Making me feel like I am special when indeed I’m just not useful for anything good.” She said, amidst sobs.
“How could he do this to me?” She cried silently.
She was pained that despite what Beck did to her, she couldn’t
forget him no matter how she tried. She had tried to occupy her
mind with a lot of other things but somehow, thoughts of him
always found its way right into her mind.
Chapter 65
“I’ve tried to act like I’m fine but I’m not. The pain eats me up every day.” She continued, “Is it my fault that I am this way? What exactly is my offence?”
The more she thought about her predicament, the more she cried and blamed herself for everything. She even blamed herself for the ones she definitely knew she had no hand in.
“Nothing is working for me. I know that staying here is just for a short moment and when they see me for who I truly am, they will throw me out of their pack without thinking twice.” She
soliloquized, soaking the bed sheets with her tears.
“If it happens soon, I won’t be even surprised.” She muttered,
looking serious like someone who is in a serious conversation
with someone else. “I know it’s just a matter of time.”
She was still in that state when she heard the door being
unlocked from outside. She immediately sprung to her feet,
wiped her tears and dashed into hiding in her usual spot under
the bed.
Soon, she heard footsteps walking towards the kitchen. She
heard the sound of some things being scattered or rearranged in
the kitchen. She wasn’t sure, because she couldn’t see what it
was.
She knew it was Steve who had gotten back from his outing. She
Chapter 65
thought of going out of the room to meet him, but she
immediately began to have second thoughts.
“What if he is with someone? What if he came back with
someone?” She thought to herself.
“It won’t be a funny scenario if I leave the room and see someone else with Steve.” She thought again.
“How do I begin to explain myself? I won’t only put myself in
trouble but he will be in trouble also for housing a stranger
despite knowing the rules of the pack.” With those numerous
reasons in place, she decided to remain in hiding, and not come
out until she was sure that all was clear.
Shortly after, she heard footsteps approaching the room.
Looking around and not seeing Veronica, he knew she definitely
was hiding under the bed. “Don’t tell me you’re hiding under the
bed again.” Steve said, standing akimbo.
Veronica, now realizing from the way Steve was talking, that all
was clear, slid out from under the bed.
“Really?” Steve had his hands folded across his chest.
“Yeah.” She answered.
“Why do you keep doing this?” Steve asked, helping her up.
Chapter 65
“Well, it’s better to be safe than sorry. I wasn’t sure if you were
alone. What if I came out and there was someone else here just
like the last visitor you had? How do I begin to explain who I
am?” She replied as she took her seat on the bed.
“You have a point though.” Steve remarked, realizing that
Veronica’s points were actually valid.
Right as he was talking to her, he noticed her eyes, and how bulgy they were. He also noticed her tear–stained cheeks.
“Have you been crying?” He asked her and she tried to hide her
face, looking away.
He gently turned her face towards him, “Vee, have you been
crying?” He asked her and she shook her head, denying it.
He looked at the sheets and noticed it was stained with her tears.
“That’s a lie. Look at the sheets, it says otherwise. You definitely
look like you have been crying all day.” Steve insisted, and she
smiled faintly.
“No, I have not been crying all day. I mean you left a while ago
and I wasn’t crying. Soz you can’t literally say I’ve been crying all
day.” She replied, trying to divert Steve’s attention from the
main matter.
“Come on, Veronica. You know what I mean.” He frowned.
Chapter 65
“Yes, I do.” She smiled again.
“Why do I feel like you’re intentionally trying to divert my
attention from the crux of the matter?” He asked, his tone
showing concern.
“Which is?” She asked, turning to look at him.
“The fact that you were crying before I got in.” He insisted and she sighed, looking away.
“It’s nothing really. I just remembered a bit of painful memories.”
She confessed.
“Should I be worried? Is it something you might want to talk
about?” He asked her.
“Oh no. I’m sorry but I can’t.” She said in a very polite way.
“Are you sure?” He asked her, trying to confirm her response.
“Yes, I am.” She reaffirmed, and Steve respected her decision.
“Whatever it is, please don’t beat yourself too much about it.
Okay?” He said on a final note and she nodded and then mother
“thank you.”
“So, did you see him?” She asked him as soon as she felt a bit
better.
Chapter 65
“Who? Beta Richard?” Steve asked and Veronica nodded.
“Yes, I did.” Steve answered. “He has given me all the details I
need, and like I told you guys earlier, I leave in two days and I’ll
be back in one week.”
“Will you be fine on your own?” Steve asked her and rolled her
eyes.
“Why do you guys keep asking me this same question?” She
asked.
“Maybe because you’re our responsibility for now.” He replied
and she smiled.
She was about to speak again when Steve shushed her gently.
“I know you want to say ‘thank you‘ but there will be no need
for that.” He said, before she could talk and she started laughing.
“That was exactly what I wanted to say.” Veronica confirmed
and they both smiled.
As she noticed Steve had shifted his focus from her, she said,
“Thank you.”
“You’re welcome.” He hesitantly replied and she smiled.
