Chapter 27
“Son, baby. Are you okay?” Beta Lily quickly asked him.
She began to rub her hand gently on his body to gradually wake
him from his slumber but his eyes were still totally shut as he
kept struggling in his sleep and muttering Veronica’s name.
His parents, Beta Lily, most especially, soon began to panic
because the more she tried to wake him up, the more he just
kept struggling and soon began to cry.
“Richard, call the doctor immediately!” She yelled and he
immediately stormed out to call the doctor.
Shortly after, he rushed in with a nurse and the doctor, who
quickly instructed Scott’s parents to step away from Scott as he
started to examine the boy.
He checked his vitals and with a straight face, looked up to
Scott’s parents.
“What is it, Doctor? Why do you look so serious? Is something
terribly wrong with our son?” Beta Lily asked the doctor.
“Of course not. He is perfectly fine.” He replied.

“What do you mean by that? He is obviously not looking fine to
- me. Can’t you see how he is struggling and muttering a name in
his sleep?” She asked, unsatisfied with the doctor’s response. “He
suddenly screamed the same name before we called you in too.”
She added.
“Hmmm.” He mused.
He looked away from Scott’s parents and focused on Scott,
paying attention to the way he was acting.
He looked at the nurse and pointed to a vial of medication which
was in the tray she was holding and she handed the vial to him.
As soon as he collected it from her, he drew out the contents in it
into a syringe and wiped Scott’s arm with a clean wool, after
which he injected his arm. Immediately, Scott stopped muttering
and he became quiet.
“Is he going to be fine, doctor? What is going on? Please talk to
us.“Beta Lily asked impatiently as the doctor walked towards
them in the corner where they had been waiting.
“Yes, he is going to be fine. He should be up any moment from
now.” He assured her with a slight smile.
“Are you sure? I hope you’re not just saying all of this to make us
feel better.” Beta Richard said to him.

“Exactly! we don’t want to be deceived or played like fools.” His
wife said in agreement. “We really want to know what is going
on with our son. Why is it that he-”
At that moment, Scott sneezed very hard, interrupting their
conversation, and they immediately looked at him. He sneezed a
second time and this time around, his eyes opened.
He looked around and saw the doctor and nurse across from
him and wondered where he was. The doctor and nurse were
standing directly in front of his parents, so he didn’t see them.
“Where am I?” He thought to himself as he looked around one
more time.
The doctor slightly moved aside, giving room for his parents‘
faces to be revealed and so, Scott finally noticed his mum and
dad looking worried at the corner.
“Mom? Dad?” He called out to them, to their surprise.
Seeing her son finally open his eyes and finally saying
something meaningful, like calling their names, Beta Lily
screamed in excitement and rushed to hug him right before the
doctor could stop them.
Confused, Scott asked, “What happened? This is the hospital,
right? What am I doing here?”

“Well, you were brought in here after the warriors found you in
the forest unconscious.” The doctor explained to him with a
smile, as he checked his drip line.
“Unconscious, forest…” he muttered to himself as if trying to
remember something.
Suddenly, he gasped and his eyes widened as he finally
remembered.
“Vee! Is she here? Did you find her? Did she escape? Was she
brought here too?” He asked hurriedly.
Hearing this, they all looked at each other in confusion,
wondering who ‘Vee‘ was and why he was desperately asking
about her.
“Vee? We don’t know what you’re talking about, son. You were the only one found by the warriors and you were brought here. I don’t think they saw any other person or thing. So, no ‘Vee‘ was brought here.” His father answered him.
As soon as he heard what his father just said, he began to panic, and tried to hurriedly get up from the bed to leave but he was immediately stopped by his parents and the doctor.
“Where do you think you’re going at this time of the night, young man?” His father immediately asked him.

“To find her. To find Vee! I promised her!” He exclaimed and his
parents and the doctor exchanged glances.
“That was the exact name he was calling for in his sleep. You
assured us that he was fine, Doctor. What is the meaning of all
this? What exactly is going on?” His mother asked, slightly distressed and disappointed.
The Doctor sighed and stood beside Scott who was now sitting up on the bed. He then asked him calmly, “Who is Vee?”
“She is my friend.” He answered.
“Your friend? What are you talking about, Scott? The name
doesn’t even sound familiar.” Beta Richard said, getting a little
bit frustrated and stressed
“Richard!” His wife snapped at him and he kept quiet.
“Please Beta Richard, be patient. I believe we’ll get the answers
we need if we are just patient enough to hear him out.” The
doctor said to him.
“So, this friend of yours. Where did you meet her and what
promise did you make to her?” The doctor asked him.
“We met in the forest.” He began. “She has been taking care of
me all the while I was lost in the forest. She saved my life and is
in danger because of me.”

Before he could continue, his mother interrupted, “Wait, she
saved your life?” She asked.
“Yes, mum. I almost died.” He replied and both his parents‘
mouths opened in shock.
“What!?” They both exclaimed in unison.
“How did that happen?” She asked with a shaky voice.
“I fell into a deep pit and passed out. She helped me out when I
regained consciousness but she fell back in when she was trying
to get out because the rope snapped and I promised to get
someone to help her but I couldn’t keep my promise.” He
explained sadly and they all sighed.
“That’s why I’m going to find her before something bad happens
to her there.” He added.
“You are?” His father asked with a raised eyebrow.
“Yes, I definitely will.” He said confidently and they all chuckled.
“And how do you plan to do that?” He asked him. “You don’t
even have any weapons.” His father joked and as he thought
about the reality, he became disappointed.
“Come to think of it, what if someone has found her and helped
her?” His father asked him but he shook his head.

“That’s not possible.” Scott stated, confidently.
Surprised by Scott’s response, his dad asked, “What makes you
think so?”
“The area is so deep in the forest. No one ever goes there to hunt because that’s the scariest and most dangerous part of the
forest.” He answered.
“Dad, please can you find her for me? I don’t want her to get hurt
because of me. Please.” He pleaded with his dad, his eyes laced
with tears.
“We’ll find her, don’t worry.” His dad said.
“Really? Can we go right now?” He asked, in anticipation.
“What? No, not now. It’s too dangerous.” His father replied but
this didn’t make Scott happy at all.
“Why not? The earlier, the better, isn’t it?” He complained.
“Well, the warriors would have to strategize properly first and
they can’t do it tonight. Besides, I have to ask the Alpha for his
permission before I can do anything.” He explained it to his son.
“Oh, that’s true.” He said sadly.
“Come here.” His mum said, pulling him into a hug. “I’m sorry

you had to go through all of that, but don’t worry, your dad will
try his best to find your friend and bring her here.” She assured
him and gave him a kiss on the forehead.
