Chapter 8
Edmund let go of Nyasia’s hand the second he saw Kaneeta.
To his surprise, as Kaneeta’s gaze swept over their hands, she
seemed so calm.
Who was he trying to deceive anyway? She found his
hypocrisy laughable.
“Neeta…” Edmund called out to her.
But she just walked back to the guest room, as if she hadn’t
heard him at all.
“Ed, is Ms. Drayton upset?” Nyasia shook his arm. “Why don’t
you go and coax her?”
Edmund frowned. The words “Ignore her” somehow stuck in his
throat, and he just gently shook Nyasia’s hand away and walked
toward the guest room in silence.
Nyasia stared at his back, saying nothing.
Her face stiffened slightly.
She thought, “I didn’t really mean it. Yet he’s actually going to

Kaneeta?
“Well, forget it. After all, we need her to bear our child.
“I can’t conceive. Otherwise, she would have been kicked out of
the picture long ago.”
Kaneeta sat at the table and was about to swallow more pills.
Just then, she heard the door opening.
“Neeta, why did you leave the party in advance?”
Edmund’s voice rang out, but she didn’t look back or even say
anything.
Edmund walked over to her. Upon seeing the pills, he asked with concern, “Why are you taking pills again? What’s wrong?”
Saying this, he picked up the pill box and glanced at it. “Your stomach’s acting up again? Why didn’t you tell me?”
“That wouldn’t help,” she replied flatly.
He looked at her, his gaze deepening slightly.
“Is it that bad? Let me help,” he said while reaching out.
Immediately, Kaneeta tensed up and leaned backward. She
moved so suddenly that her chair screeched across the floor.

“Neeta?” His expression darkened.
“That won’t be necessary!” She stood up. “It doesn’t hurt a lot. I
wanna rest now. You may go out.”
“Are you upset about what happened tonight?” He held her in his arms. “Neeta, show some understanding, alright? Nya has just joined us. If you embarrass her in front of everyone, do you really think anyone in the CEO’s office will ever take her
seriously again?”
She sneered, “With you around, that’s hardly an issue for her!”
“It was just a drink. Do you really have to make a big deal out of it? It’s not like you’ve never drunk before.”
She clenched her fists.
Edmund reeked of alcohol, and he slurred. She knew he must have drunk a lot tonight.
On the contrary, Nyasia seemed sober.
Presumably, Nyasia didn’t drink a single drop tonight.
Edmund took such great care of her.
“Neeta, you’ve become increasingly willful.” Edmund’s tone grew more displeased. “I get it now. This whole taking–the–pill

thing is just a show you put on for me, right? You left without
telling me, and now, you’re pulling such lame tricks. Do you truly expect me to believe one drink from Nya could possibly
upset your stomach?”
He knew exactly that her stomach had been weak these days,
yet he still accused her like this.
He just wanted to defend Nyasia.
Feeling exhausted, she couldn’t be bothered to argue with him.
So, she nodded perfunctorily. “Yeah. Whatever you say. Can
you go out now? I wanna rest.”
For some reason, her attitude irritated Edmund even more.
He knew she was always understanding, but she had her
moments too.
After what he said, she didn’t argue at all. Instead, she asked him
to leave.
Could it be… she didn’t want to share a bed with him?
No way. She loved him so much.
His gaze slowly fell upon her lips.
Due to discomfort, her lips were pale.
Perhaps it was the alcohol–those intimate moments he had
shared with her came back to his mind.
Almost instantly, he had a hard–on.
His Adam’s apple bobbed as he called out to her, his voice
hoarse, “Neeta…”
Kaneeta was stunned.
She saw the lust in his eyes clearly.
“I said I wanna rest. Get out!” She instinctively reached out to
push him away.
Yet he took the chance to grab her wrist, his burning grip
threatening to consume her whole.
“Neeta, I don’t wanna leave. Tonight… I wanna stay here and sleep with you.”
