Chapter 8

“Kendra, did you really think you could take Aliana’s place?” Jeremy’s grip tightened, his thumb pressing into her skin as Kendra’s face turned a mottled purple. “Did you think that just because I tossed you a few crumbs, you could mess with Aliana behind my back?”

“I didn’t…” she gasped, struggling to defend herself, but he dragged her into the media room.

On the screen, footage of Kendra’s staged performances and false accusations played one after another. All the color drained from her face.

“Jeremy, I only did it because I couldn’t stand seeing her upset you… I just wanted to teach her a lesson, that’s all…”

་་

He flung her away as if she were garbage. “Who do you think you are? You’re nothing but a tool I used to provoke her, and you dared to lay a hand on Aliana?”

Without Aliana, Kendra was utterly useless-nothing more than a disposable pawn. And yet she’d had the nerve to threaten Aliana into divorcing him.

That thought made Jeremy’s expression grow even darker, sending a chill of terror through Kendra.

“Everything you did to Aliana, you’re going to pay back. Every last bit.”

As he spoke, two bodyguards stepped forward and pinned Kendra’s arms.

“Take her to the yacht. She loves jumping into the ocean, doesn’t she? Let her jump to her heart’s content!”

No one knew how many times Kendra was tossed into the sea, or how many times she was shoved from the second- floor deck.

In the end, she was left in shock after being forced to give blood.

During those days with no word of Aliana, Jeremy drowned himself in whiskey at the bar, night after night.

Until one hazy evening, he overheard a man at the next table making a call.

“You really saw Aliana? Don’t worry about it-she and Jeremy split up ages ago. Who could put up with that kind of torment? Eight years is already impressive-she begged him to take her back eight times, that’s more than enough…”

The name Aliana stabbed into Jeremy’s foggy mind like an ice-cold needle.

He lurched from his seat, wild hope burning in his bloodshot eyes.

“Who did you just mention? Where’s Aliana? Tell me where she is-now!”

The man fumbled to put away his phone, forcing a stiff smile.

“Jeremy, you’ve had too much to drink. How would I know anything about her?”

Narrowing his eyes, Jeremy recognized this person as someone he once considered a friend. Months of pent-up fury exploded in an instant.

A bottle smashed at his feet, shards of glass and whiskey splashing up his pant leg as he grabbed the man by the col- lar, fury hissing through his teeth.

“I heard Aliana’s name with my own cars! If you don’t tell me everything right now, you’re not leaving here alive!”

The man trembled, terror in his eyes-he knew all too well what the Corwin family was capable of. He slumped in de- feat and finally confessed.

“Jeremy, look… it’s not my place to say, but Aliana loved you so much back then. You broke her heart over and over… My friend ran into her overseas and wanted to ask her out. He just wanted to make sure you two were really di- vorced… I didn’t tell you because I was afraid you’d be angry…”

Jeremy couldn’t hear another word.

He only knew one thing-Aliana was overseas. She was overseas! He’d finally found her!
