Derek and I started planning our engagement ceremony.
Since we had already made the decision, I didn’t want to think about anything else.
Derek was a very qualified fiancé–I didn’t need to worry about anything.
My life remained the same as before, without any changes.
Ryan hadn’t come looking for me since that day, and I deliberately avoided listening to any news about him.
I found evidence about the scandalous photos from the venue that day.
Sophie had conspired with the staff to make it happen. Her goal was to make my arranged marriage with Ryan fail so she could take my place.
I didn’t expose this evidence either. After all, we’d still have to see each other in the future, so there was no need to be too ruthless.
Because of my marriage to Derek, the Watson family’s business tilted toward my family. The increased workload made me dizzy with exhaustion.
Sometimes when I doubted whether my decision to marry Derek was correct, the numbers on the financial statements strengthened my resolve.
Love might not be eternal, but money entering my bank account definitely wouldn’t disappear.

“Are you done with work? Should I pick you up?” Derek’s message came through on my phone.
I turned off my computer and replied to Derek, “No need, I’ll go home myself. Pick me up tomorrow–we’ll go try on outfits together.”
Lately, I had been so tired that I’d just lie down and sleep when I got home, not wanting to do anything else.
After walking out of the elevator, I took off my high heels and carried them, preparing to open my door. Suddenly, a figure at my doorway startled me.
The heavy smell of alcohol made me step back several paces. The hallway light came on—it was Ryan.
“Have you lost your mind? You’re at the wrong place!”
When Ryan saw it was me, he suddenly walked over and hugged me tightly.
“I waited for you for two hours. Why are you just getting home now?”
His eyes were red and teary. Using the tone that always used to make my heart soften, he said, “I miss you so much.”
He hugged me so tightly that I couldn’t break free for a moment.
“You’re out of your mind, Ryan. Go find Sophie. What are you doing here at my place?”
Hearing my words, Ryan said excitedly, “I knew you were jealous! I’ve already broken up with Sophie. Let’s get married, okay?”
The purpose behind those words was too obvious. I let out a mocking laugh and lifted my knee, striking toward his lower body.

The sharp pain made him instantly let go and stumble back several steps, trembling.

“You were the one who said you wouldn’t marry me. What’s with this act now? Go have your drunken breakdown somewhere else.”
Looking at Ryan’s face now, I couldn’t summon even a trace of love. Apparently, giving up someone you’d loved for years could be so easy.
The appearance of someone new and my busy work made me completely forget about that ten–year fruitless relationship.
“Caressa, before, I was always wanting more. I didn’t see my feelings for you clearly. Now I know my mistakes and want to make amends. Stop being angry with me, okay?”
