Chapter 12

Maddalena walked out of the airport, the biting cold wind carrying tiny snowflakes hit her face. She sneezed loudly.

There was a bit of indescribable confusion in her heart.

Then a tall figure quickly appeared in the line of sight.

Emilio wore a dark gray suit, standing tall and straight, exuding a presence that was impossible to ignore.

Seeing Maddalena’s nose turning slightly red from the cold wind, Emilio immediately took off his own coat and draped it over her shoulders.

“The weather here is quite cold, be careful not to catch a cold.”

Maddalena was enveloped by a strange warm breath and instinctively looked up.

The tall, solid figure almost enveloped her, calming Maddalena’s previously uneasy heart miraculously.

“Thank you.” She felt a little embarrassed and tightened her coat around her shoulders.

“Don’t be so polite, we are already married. My friends know you are coming and are very welcoming, so they have prepared a welcoming banquet. Would you like to go?”

Maddalena hesitated for a moment. She had intended to refuse, but for some reason, when she looked at Emilio’s seri- ous expression, she found herself unable to say no.

Well, since they were already married, there was no harm in attending a reception. If they don’t go, won’t it actually put Emilio in a difficult position?

She nodded and followed Emilio into the hotel.

As soon as she opened the private room, she saw a sea of heads inside. In the private room, the atmosphere was live-

“Hello!” A young man with gray hair, dyed to look like his grandmother’s, stood up first and greeted everyone warm- ly.

“Welcome!”

“Mrs. Loredan was good!”

“Mrs. Loredan was fine!”

“Welcome!”

The sounds of greetings merged together.

Maddalena was taken aback by this sudden enthusiasm and could only nod slightly in response. She instinctively moved closer to Emilio beside her.

Emilio, upon seeing this, immediately put his arm around her shoulder and introduced to everyone, “This is my wife, Maddalena.”

“I had heard long ago that Mrs. Loredan was a skilled doctor who could work wonders, and now that I have seen her today, it is indeed true!”

Grandma Gray praised, giving Maddalena a thumbs up. Then he just came over directly.

“My name is George Benson, I am Emilio’s good brother, you can just call me George!”

Others also introduced themselves one after another, and the atmosphere became a bit too lively. Along with the self- introductions came a dazzling array of gifts.

Maddalena looked at the gifts, feeling a mix of emotions. She had never received such warmth and respect from Sil- vano’s friends before.

“Mrs. Loredan, don’t be polite. We are all family here. You just arrived in New York and are not familiar with the place. If you want to go anywhere in the future, just give us a call. Emilio is a busy man, but we will take you there!”

Maddalena was a little flustered and instinctively turned to Emilio for help.

Emilio then cast a glance at everyone.

“You couldn’t stop talking even when eating, we accepted the gifts, hurry up and eat!” A faint smile played at the cor- ner of his mouth.

Maddalena finally breathed a sigh of relief and sat down next to Emilio. Beside her was George, who had been chat- tering non-stop since he sat down.

It wasn’t until it was almost time to eat that he reluctantly stopped talking.

“Mrs. Loredan, add me on WhatsApp, let’s stay in touch in the future! He took out his phone, looking expectant.”

Before Maddalena could react, Emilio’s gaze swept over, and his tone was somewhat displeased: “What are you do- ing? Can you add my wife on WhatsApp?”

George pretended to shake his head and put away his phone.

“Tsk, some men are really petty. I just wanted to have more communication with Mrs. Loredan, nothing else!”

“Stay away from my wife, stop bothering her all the time. Out of everyone, you are the most inappropriate.”

Emilio mercilessly exposed him, and everyone heard it and began to mock George.

He turned to look at Maddalena, his tone gentle: “Don’t mind him, this kid just likes to mess around.”

Upon hearing what he said, the crowd started to make a commotion again.

Maddalena was a bit reserved at first, but she quickly warmed up to everyone’s teasing.
