Listening to Liam’s voice on the phone, though my heart was filled with disbelief and questions, one thought was crystal clear: I
had to divorce him!
No matter how he managed to escape, no matter what kind of game he was playing, this relationship should have ended a long
time ago!
I photographed the most sickening pages from that journal, along with those intimate photos of their affair, and printed them all
out.
Then I had my lawyer draft a divorce agreement.
The moment I signed my name on the divorce papers, I felt a sense of liberation I’d never experienced before.
The next morning, Liam returned alone.
The moment he walked in, he reached out to hug me.
I dodged his touch, my gaze sweeping past him to the empty doorway behind him. I spoke coldly, “Where’s my sister? Why are you back alone?”
Liam’s eyes flickered uncomfortably, but he quickly covered it with a smile, saying casually, “Oh, Chloe? She was overjoyed about the project’s success. She said it’s rare to travel, so she went to a neighboring country with her friends for a few days before
coming back.”
My mind was filled with doubt, but I didn’t want to press. I angrily threw the signed divorce papers and the photos of his infidelity in his face.
“Liam, let’s get a divorce.“”
The air in the living room instantly froze.
Liam stared at the photos, incredulous.
But after two seconds, he picked one up and scoffed, “Anya, you want to divorce me over these things?”
“You actually believe these Photoshopped pictures?”
“Photoshopped?” I trembled with rage. “Liam, have you no shame?! Then what about this journal? Is that Photoshopped too??
“Journal?” Liam looked bewildered, then as it something clicked, he said with a sudden realization, “Oh, you mean my emotional
record book.”
“My doctor said I was under too much stress and told me to vent my emotions that way, to write down some imagined things. It’s good for mental health.”
He twisted the truth, denying everything completely!
“Stop pretending!” I couldn’t take it anymore. I raised my hand and slapped him hard. “You make me sick!”
Liam grabbed my wrist, his face contorted, and leaned close to my ear, his voice icy: “Anya Miller, I advise you to behave,
otherwise…”
“Otherwise what?” I glared at him.
Liam sneered, then released me, his face instantly switching back to that heartbroken look. He called out loudly to the entire family.
“Dad, Mom, come quick and see Anya. I think she… might truly be ill.” He shook his head in distress, pulling out a diagnosis report and handing it to my mother.
“This is the result of a quiet consultation I had with a psychologist a few days ago. The doctor reviewed my description of Anya’s condition and gave a preliminary diagnosis of severe anxiety with delusional disorder.”
“Delusional disorder?” My mom’s voice trembled. She pointed at my nose and yelled, “Anya! Are you crazy?!”
“I knew you’ve been acting strangely lately! Chloe is working so hard outside for this family, and you’re at home going crazy, suspecting her! Did a dog eat your conscience?!”
My dad also looked at me with disappointment, sighing, “Anya, stop it. Don’t we know what kind of people Liam and Chloe are? Don’t let your imagination run wild anymore.”
Liam’s mom wiped away tears: “Our Liam has such a hard life. He married you, truly loved you with all his heart, and you? You’re just stirring up trouble and drama at home every day.”
He walked towards me, forcefully pulling me into his embrace, his voice choked: “Dad, Mom, don’t blame Anya. It’s all my fault. I’ve been too busy with work lately and haven’t taken good care of her emotions, which is why she’s been overthinking and gotten
so sick.”
He held me tightly, his voice utterly chilling: “Anya, I advise you not to struggle. Do you want to be sent to a mental hospital as a crazy person, or will you just listen to me? You choose!”
At that moment, I finally realized what kind of viper had been lying beside me for two lifetimes!
Before I could say anything, Liam raised his voice, tears streaming down his face, and announced: “Mom, Dad, to cure Anya’s illness, I’ve already booked flights and a hotel for the Maldives. We’ll leave next week.”
“I believe that as long as we communicate well, our relationship can be restored to what it once was!”
4:04 PM
The moment his words fell, my mom immediately responded: “Liam is so thoughtful! Yes, yes, you should go out and travel! Anya, did you hear that? How good Liam is to you! If you dare to make trouble again, I’ll disown you as my daughter!”
My in–laws also nodded repeatedly, their faces full of relief.
A chill ran through me. Remembering my missing sister and the vanished scam group, I finally understood that this despicable pair wanted to drag me down to hell with them!
