Chapter 20
He knew Shevonne was here today to see him because she didn’t have a place to live.
But a part of him was gone the moment Phalicia left, and the feeling was unsettling.
Ignoring Shevonne, he walked toward the table and saw the cocktail he had made for Phalicia. He paused slightly before picking it up and took a sip.
It was strawberry–flavored.
A flicker of complex emotions flashed across Caleb’s eyes as he quickly chased after Phalicia.
He didn’t even pause as he walked past Shevonne.
The others were dumbfounded.
What was going on?
Caleb actually left while leaving Shevonne behind!
Meanwhile, Phalicia strode out of the bar.
ང
The shock and hurt on her face had long been replaced by blank indifference.
A lot of cars were parked at the entrance to pick up customers.
She yanked open the door of the nearest car, sat inside, slammed the door shut, and took out her phone.

Rejecting Caleb’s call, she said without looking up, “To Utopia Estates.”
But the driver didn’t start the car or say anything.
She couldn’t help but look up in confusion.
A man was sitting in the driver’s seat of the Lexus.
He tilted his head to look at her, his features stunning, his eyes devoid of any emotion.
They locked eyes for a few seconds before she blurted out, “You?”
Horacio scoffed, “Ms. Lombard, maybe you should try to be more creative the next time you see me.”
Out of the corner of her eye, Phalicia caught a glimpse of Caleb rushing out of the bar.
She immediately tapped the seat. “Drive.”
Horacio looked at her and said with displeasure, “I’m waiting for my friend, and I’m not your chauffeur. Get out.”
She bit her lip helplessly. Seeing that Caleb was scanning the cars, she threw herself flat against the back seat right away.
Horacio frowned.
Failing to find her, Caleb entered the bar again anxiously.
“He’s gone. Now, get out.”
Horacio’s tone was deep and cold, with a hint of impatience and disgust.
Phalicia knew he always stayed out of trouble, but she was still surprised at his huge reaction. It was as if being dragged into her affairs disgusted

him.
Pursing her lips, she got out of the car in silence.
After some thought, she walked back and tapped the passenger–side
window.
Horacio half–lowered the window and looked at her.

“I’ll get the money. Just… think carefully about whether you’ll take my case, alright?” She looked at him seriously without blinking.
The bar’s neon sign flickered between red and blue, obscuring Horacio’s face in shadows.
After quite a while, he said, his voice barely audible, “OK.”
But she still heard him. Relieved, she quickly walked away and got into a taxi ahead.
Then, a tattooed arm reached out the window, and the gold watch on the wrist flashed as the driver tapped the cigarette ash.
It seemed pretty shady for a taxi driver.
Horacio’s gaze lingered on the taxi as it drove away.
Just then, a man walked over to the Lexus, sat in the passenger seat, and pinched the bridge of his nose.
“Those bastards! It took me ages before they agreed to testify for the defendant!”
After saying this, Ryan Campbell sniffed suspiciously. “Am I tripping? Or is there really a lady’s perfume smell in your car?”
Horacio started the car and said after a few seconds, “No, there isn’t.”

“I guess. You’re such a workaholic, practically married to your cases. Those pretty receptionists are totally wasting their time winking at you. How come they never check me out? I’m just as handsome…”
