Chapter 9
I yanked my arm from his grip in disgust, but Carter wasn’t giving up. He kept begging
“Bianca, I’ll have her terminate the pregnancy right now. I’ll kick her out of the pack, out of our pack house. She’ll get the punishment she deserves, I swear it. I’ll spend the rest of my life making it up to you.”
Just then, before I could respond, Daphne came storming in from who–knows–where.
Her face was pale, eyes bloodshot–she had clearly heard everything Carter said.
She screamed hysterically, “Carter! Have you forgotten? You were the one scared that she would publish the patent recall, so you told me to run her down! And now you want to play innocent? Do you think you can pin everything on me? Dream on!”
Carter’s face twisted in fury. Without thinking, he kicked her square in the stomach.
“You filthy bitch! If you hadn’t been throwing yourself at me every chance you got, using work as an excuse to seduce me, why would I ever be dumb enough to choose trash like you over Bianca?”
Daphne collapsed to the floor, crying out in pain.
Carter turned back to me, the last sherd of hope shining in his
eyes.
“Bianca, it wasn’t me. You saw that. She has no proof.”
I let out a cold laugh and pulled a sleek pen from my bag.
“She doesn’t, but I do. That day, I accidentally left my recorder in the room. It captured everything–you and Dorian, discussing the plan.”
I looked down at Daphne, who was still curled on the floor, groaning.
“That recording? I’ve already submitted it to the Alpha king.”
Then I stepped toward her, standing tall as I looked down at her broken form.
“And as for you–the footage of you driving straight at me has also been turned in.
Then I turned to Carter, “And what you just said about wanting to become the Alpha king? That’s treason.” I said softly, but each word was sharp.
“Scurn like you two deserve to fall together. Isn’t that right?”
Suddenly, the sound of sirens pierced through the air outside the pack house.
Realization dawned across Carter’s face. His eyes went wide as he stared at me in disbelief.
“Bianca, this isn’t how my life was supposed to end. I was supposed to be healthy, rich with a happy bonding.”

I let out a scoffing laugh, soft but cutting.
“You could have had all that. But you forgot the Moon Goddess‘ blessings never favor the faithless and the cruel.”
His eyes glazed over, hoflow and vacant, like his soul had slipped out of him.
Then, suddenly, as if something had clicked, he began muttering to himself.
“No, no way, my body is healthy. That means the pearl wish worked. It worked. The wish still worked… it worked…”
He repeated it over and over, his eyes spiraling into madness.
Before anyone could react to stop him, he suddenly shoved aside the warriors next to him and bolted from the banquet hall like a man possessed.
Cameras jolted, reporters screamed, and chaos broke loose as they chased after him. The entire scene descended into
