Chapter 7
The moment the words left my mouth, I heard the unmistakable sound of glass shattering beside me.
Carter’s face turned ghostly pale. The champagne glass slipped from his hand and crashed to the floor, splashing liquid across his
custom–tailored suit.
The room fell into stunned silence, as if no one could process what I had just said.
And in that eerie quiet, my voice rang out even clearer.
“As for your question regarding the partnership,” I continued, “I’ve already asked my Beta to initiate a formal investigation. We’ll be coordinating with the Bloodmoon Pack’s head warrior to address the matter of intellectual property infringement. I assure you a proper explanation will be given to the public soon.”
A collective gasp rippled through the hall. The crowd erupted instantly.
The media, like sharks catching the scent of blood, surged forward with cameras clicking furiously. Flashes exploded like a hailstorm. I could barely keep my eyes open from the blinding lights.
བ
Carter, finally catching up to what had just happened, clamped a hand over my mouth and forced out a strained smile. “Everyone, please stay calm.”
He turned to the crowd, his voice forced into a feigned calm.
“Lately, my Luna has endured immense trauma–both a car accident and a miscarriage. She’s been blaming herself for what happened, and it’s taken a toll on her emotional state.”
I watched him perform, laughter burning cold in my chest.
His eyes even glistened with tears–he looked like a man devastated by loss, worthy of an Oscar.
“She believes all of it was her fault, and she’s struggling mentally,” Carter went on, gripping my wrist tightly with one hand.
“I hope everyone can refrain from harsh judgment. Thank you for your understanding.”
While the crowd murmured and debated, he leaned down and hissed into my ear through clenched teeth, voice sharp.
“Bianca. Don’t be difficult.”
His breath brushed against my ear, and I was instantly reminded of that moment in the hospital–when I’d heard him whispering just like this into Daphne’s ear.
“You know I made a wish on that pearl,” he growled. “Even if you ruin today’s deal, I’ll still become the richest man, richer than the Alpha king. I’ll overthrow him and take his place to become the Alpha king if I have to. And eventually, I’ll still become your mate.”
I ripped my arm from his grip and smiled brightly, mockingly.
“Oh really?”
He nodded, full of arrogant certainty. He was acting like he was doing me a favor.
“If you just admit you’re emotionally unstable, I won’t hold this against you. In a year, you could still become Luna Queen. All you have to do is play along. Just endure it.”
I rolled my eyes at him and sneered.
you.. and
“Sorry. I must’ve forgotten to tell you back then. Once you broke the mate bond with me
pearls lost their power.”
His expression collapsed and his face turned pale.
All the color drained from his face like someone had dumped a bucket of ice water over him.

He clutched at my sleeve, voice trembling.
“No. No, that’s not true. You’re lying.”
I jerked my arm free and laughed coldly.
“Try it and see.”
Right then, my Beta stepped into the banquet hall.
Lucas walked up and handed me two documents–the bond–breaking deal and the Forging Rights Deed.
I held them up for the cameras, making sure every lens got a clear shot.
“I am not emotionally unstable,” I declared. “And I am not making any of this up.”
“Alpha Carter and I officially broke our mate bond two weeks ago.” I said, my voice firm and unwavering.
Gasps rippled across the room again.
From the corner of my eye, I saw the Lycan king’s expression shift from shock to pure fury. His Beta was already dialing furiously on his phone.
“As for why we broke the mate bond…” I drew in a deep breath, feeling the weight I’d carried for so long finally begin to lift. “It’s because he cheated on me with his Beta. And she’s carrying his child.”
