I was the only person who ever sat in Ben’s
passenger seat. Tiffany had deliberately set it
up to show off.
Strangely, it didn’t hurt. It was more like an
annoyance, something that had to be dealt
with.
“Yeah, not your fault.”

I used a tissue to try to stop the bleeding. “Can
we just go to the hospital?”
Ben’s eyebrows shot up when he realized that I
wasn’t mad. Usually, with anything involving
Tiffany, I’d make it a fight and force him to choose me.
But it didn’t matter anymore. My hand just hurt.
Ben looked at me like I was weird, but he was just glad he didn’t have to deal with my complaining. He even went so far as to ask,
“So… maybe you can just go sit in the back?”
“Sure.”
I nodded, and when I turned to get out, Ben
grabbed my arm, looking annoyed.
“You think I’m just your personal chauffeur
now?”
He shoved me into the passenger seat, face

Later, while the doctor was cleaning up my
wound, Ben’s phone rang. Tiffany’s chirpy voice
came through loud and clear. “Ben, it’s
snowing! Come watch the snow with me!”
“Okay.”
Ben’s face lit up like he won the lottery. He
turned to leave when the doctor stopped him.
“Her hand needs to be….”
“She’s not a cripple. She can hold it up herself.”
Ben just huffed. “You’re like, what? Thirty, forty
now? Stop acting like some little girl. Look at
the wrinkles on your face, they could crush a
fly.”
He left without another word.
My hand fell onto the table, I let out a sharp
intake of breath from the pain.
I ignored what he’d said, using my uninjured
arm to hold my injured hand.
He didn’t even ask why the doctor said I
needed IV fluids, even if it was just my hand
that was hurt.
The doctor gave me a sad look and called a
nurse in. I felt something well up in my chest,
making my eyes sting.
I was upset, just a little bit.
While the IV was dripping, I saw that Tiffany
had posted on her social media again. It was a
picture of her and Ben dancing in the snow.
The caption read: “If we are ever under the
same snowfall, our lives would have a shared
beginning.”
