Chapter 12
After I got together with Waylon, I finally understood that true love could heal the heart.
These days, I thought about the past less and less. So, when I saw Jackson again, it felt as though a century had passed.

That press conference made Jackson a laughingstock among the packs. He was banished by the members of the Ulverngard pack and stripped of his Alpha title.
Only after he lost his power did he realize how foolish he had been.
“Please forgive me!” Jackson kneeled before me with tears streaming down his face.
From the whispers around me, I learned that Jackson had been lingering near the Nocterra pack for months. He had been trying to get in to see me, but Waylon had always stopped him.
Jackson tried to explain, “It was all because of her that I believed her every word, trusted her lies, and hurt you repeatedly!
“She’s the one who killed our child! I’ve already killed her–tortured her for revenge for our child! In fact, I’d already fallen in love with you all these years, but my pride stopped me from admitting it…
“I heard you’re going to marry Waylon. Please don’t marry him–give me a chance. Let’s start over, okay? I’ll make
it up
to you!
”
Jackson begged humbly, trying to find even a trace of the love I once had for him in my expression.
Unfortunately, all he saw on my face was indifference.
“Stop lying to yourself, Jackson,” I said mercilessly. “The one who really killed our child wasn’t Laila–it was you.
“There’s no possibility of reconciliation left between us.”
