Chapter 14
I lived in Mount Shasta for three months, and I didn’t expect to see Benjamin and Lillian again.
That nun who used to travel around has passed away. Lately, I’ve been busy with tending to plants, eating vegetarian, and reading poetry every day. Life has never felt so peaceful.
On the day when I usually go to read poetry, I unexpectedly saw the tired- looking Benjamin and Lillian.
They probably waited for me for several days, and when they saw me, they got really excited and came to hug me.
“Naomi! You were really here! Come with me!”
I acted like I didn’t know them at all, just calmly sidestepped.
“Is there anything I can help you with?”
Lillian suddenly got teary–eyed.
“Naomi, please! Come back with me now.”
“Since you left, a lot has happened. Colin doesn’t know where to hide Selena, and he’s constantly targeting the Sullivan Group. We’re all being driven crazy by him!”
I smiled calmly and said, “I’ve already let go of the past, so you don’t need to come looking for me again in the future.”
After I finished speaking, I turned around and headed towards the back of the mountain, and then Lillian suddenly got angry.
“Don’t use this as an excuse! I know what you’re up to. Did you intentionally leak the video?”
“You have always been so cold–blooded and heartless. I really regret why I gave birth to you in the first place. If I had known. I should have just strangled you to death. It’s better if you never come back!”
I ignored it and kept walking, but then I heard a familiar voice in my ear.
“Naomi, are you okay…”
Colin sounded a bit cautious.
When they saw Colin, Benjamin and Lillian were like “seeing a ghost” and couldn’t say a word.
My back gradually moved further away, not even giving Colin another glance.
In front of me, he was no different from a stranger long ago.
I didn’t realize he had been following me silently until we entered the
back mountain area.
“Hello, this is the area behind the church, it’s not open to the public, please leave as soon as possible.”
“Naomi, can I talk to you for a moment? Just a quick chat.”
Colin didn’t give up, his eyes looking at me like an abandoned puppy.
Anyone who saw Colin like this would be shocked.
I quietly closed the mountain gate.
Colin didn’t give up, he camped out in the backyard every day, and when he woke up, he would come to the back hill to wait for me.
Chapter 14
I used to ignore him all the time. These days it’s been hot, so the church has been giving out free iced drinks and watermelon to visitors. I’ve been in charge of keeping order every day.
That day, because of cutting in line, some people in the crowd started fighting.
I rushed over immediately to maintain order, but I was pushed down hard by someone in the chaos.
The palm brushed against the sharp stone, oozing a little blood.
“Naomi!”
Colin came running when he heard the sound.
“Naomi… Don’t be afraid, I’ll take you to the hospital first…”
He reached out his hand, wanting to take a look.
I gently pulled my hand back, avoiding his touch.
“No need to bother.”
Colin froze, his face looking a bit ugly in front of everyone, but he didn’t say anything, just silently retreated to a distance not too far or too close.
From that day on, I stayed in the backyard and didn’t go out anymore.
Two days later, I went to the mountain next door to pick herbs.
Halfway through, the sky was gray and hazy, kind of weird.
Just as I was about to turn back, it started pouring rain out of the blue.
I could only find a nearby house to settle down.
The rain kept getting heavier, and I was feeling more and more uneasy.
Chapter 14
I spent a restless night, and the next day at the crack of dawn, I immediately set off back to the church.
However, I saw a huge rock on the hill behind from far away, which smashed my house into pieces and there were people gathered around.
“He has been digging for a whole day and night, right? I heard his wife. lives on the hill behind, so devoted!”
“We had such a good relationship, I don’t know why he came here. Maybe I did something wrong!”
)
I approached slowly, only to see a figure covered in dirt and blood. digging with bare hands. He was completely unaware of his appearance, just desperately searching.
“Colin?”
Colin’s hands froze, and he stood there like a statue.
After a while, he slowly turned around, his eyes changing from despair to great joy.
“Naomi! As long as you’re okay…”
He didn’t care about anything else, he ran towards me.
Just as I took two steps, I suddenly felt weak and passed out.
