Chapter 7
I made up my mind to divorce, but Colsen refused to sign the papers. The whole thing kept getting pushed back over and over.
Before I knew it, the day of Colsen’s court hearing arrived.
Inside the courtroom, he admitted to causing Kiara’s death. Still, as her mother, I couldn’t find it in my heart to forgive what he had done.
In the end, Colsen was convicted of involuntary manslaughter and sentenced to five years in prison.
Right before being taken away, he looked at me with teary eyes and admitted, “Elsie, I caused Kiara’s death. I deserve this. I’ll go to prison, but I wish you could forgive me…”
I met his eyes and said slowly and firmly, “That will never happen.”
“Why…” He looked shocked and heartbroken.
I exhaled sharply, then replied with an icy tone, “Colsen, do you remember the promise you made when you were pursuing me? You swore you’d love me forever, treat me well, never cheat, and stay loyal. You even said that if you broke that promise, you wouldn’t die peacefully.
“And what did you actually do? You broke the promise you once made, betrayed our love, and completely hurt me. I stood by you through everything, from the very beginning until you had success, only to be repaid like this. And now you have the nerve to ask for forgiveness? I will never forgive you.”
His face was full of sorrow, and tears streamed down his cheeks.

Chapter 7
Soon after, two court officers came and took him away.
I walked off and didn’t glance back once.
After he went to prison, I stepped in and took charge of the Breslin Group.

Even though I wasn’t a business expert, I hired two experienced assistants with high salaries to help me manage the company.
With their support, Breslin Group continued to operate smoothly and stay on track.

Some time later, I filed a lawsuit to get back the properties–worth over ten million dollars–that Colsen had given to Astrid during their time together.
But she had already wasted all that money. She couldn’t repay a single cent and refused to take responsibility.
In the end, the court had no choice but to freeze all the money in her bank
account.
Furious, Astrid stormed into the Breslin Group and shouted at me, “Elsie, why are you so heartless? Colsen gave that money to me willingly! Why do you have to take it back? Plus, my two sons are also his children! They have every right to inherit his assets! Who do you think you are to take everything for yourself?”
Inherit his assets?
I couldn’t help but laugh at her words.
“Astrid, Colsen’s not even dead yet, and you’re already thinking about inheritance? Don’t forget, I’m his legal wife. Your kids are illegitimate.

Colsen and I built the Breslin Group side by side. As long as he’s alive and I don’t give permission, you won’t see a single cent!”
Astrid’s nose flared, and her breathing became fast and uneven. She screamed and threatened to take my life, so I called security and had her thrown out.
Without Colsen around, no one stood up for her or the two kids. Astrid was broke and had no place to stay, so she ended up squeezing into a small room, only about 10 square meters, with her children.
She had been used to a rich and easy life and couldn’t handle any struggle. To provide for her kids, she had no choice but to take a job as a
hostess at a bar.
Every day, she was made to drink a lot and deal with rude, unpleasant customers. Even when people acted inappropriately toward her, she didn’t fight back; she just held it in and stayed silent.
There were times when she had to use her body to earn money. The woman who was once spoiled and full of pride had become someone abandoned by her lover and treated like she was worth nothing.
